A Home Among the Gum Trees: Art Exhibition by Sarah and Max Thornton-Smith
Midland Junction Arts Centre is currently featuring "A Home Among the Gum Trees," a touching mother-son exhibition by Sarah Thornton-Smith and Max Thornton-Smith. Max organized the exhibition during Year 12 (2023), a the show features many of the artworks from his first year at Curtin University studying Fine Art. "A Home Among the Gum Trees" explores the passage of time, the beauty of the Australian landscape, and the shared feeling of nostalgia for home. Max and Sarah’s collaboration captures the fleeting nature of childhood and the lasting presence of parenthood, set in the creative atmosphere of the Perth hills.
The opening night was a great success, with a diverse audience that included many 2023 graduates from Mazenod College. The visitors were deeply moved by the personal and evocative nature of the works, which resonated with their own experiences and memories.
Sarah and Max Thornton-Smith's collaboration shows how art can connect generations and express universal truths. The exhibition continues to be on show at the Midland Junction Arts Centre, West Gallery, until 1 September.
