Please note like last year, we will be at Hillview Golf Course. The event will be 18-holes shotgun start. Each team will be allocated a hole to start from with tee-off at 12:30 pm.
Bowls of chips will be provided by the Old Boys in the clubhouse. Please stay around for the prize ceremony which will start at approximately 5:00 pm.
If you wish to register or have questions, please email your names/team to Liam (mallon.liam@mazenod.wa.edu.au).
If you wish to donate/sponsor a prize, please get in touch!
Important Information
Green Fees are $30 per person for adults and $25 per student, to be paid on the day.
Children in Year 9 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Please read below for the event rules:
1. This is an Ambrose event.
2. Tee off from blue tees.
3. Each player must have 3 of their drives used as the group’s best shot.
4. If the chosen ball is off the fairway/ in a bunker/ off the green, then the next shot must be played off the fairway/ in the bunker/ off the green.
5. Handicaps: At the end of the game, we choose 6 holes at random and use these to create a ‘handicap’ for each group based on the group’s score over these 6 holes. Each group’s net score is then calculated: Net score = raw score – handicap. There is a nominal prize “The Socks Prize” in recognition of the best raw score of the day. There are also prizes for the nearest to the pin, which is holes 4 and 12, and the longest drive on hole 18.
6. Please ensure you dress in accordance with Hillview Golf Course’s dress code - tucked in a collared shirt (polo fine), trousers or dress shorts (no denim) and closed-in shoes.
Round 22 Winners
As mentioned in last week’s write-up“….it looks like one of those rounds where many games could go either way” and so it turned out. Of those people who entered tips for the week, only one person managed to tip six winners, with a further 16 doing relatively well picking five winners. Jo Whittington was the only person to pick six winners and as such is this week’s winner of the $50. Congratulations Jo.
With regard to the overall leaderboard, Santino Giancono is on 132, Matt Sinclair (Class of 1983) and Steven Greenwood (Class of 1982) are on equal second on 127 with four other people still in with a chance of winning some end-of-season prizemoney on 126. For those still in contention for the overall prize, just a reminder that if at the end of Round 24 scores are tied then the aggregate points differential (from tipping the margin in the game of each round) will be used to determine overall placings. The overall winner will receive $1,000, second place is $400 and third place is $200.
Round 23
Round 23 starts on Friday night and looks (dare I say it) relatively straightforward but with the chance of a few upsets.
Essendon v Sydney
Somehow Essendon found a way to lose on the weekend, it’s hard to see how they could beat Sydney. Since 2019, these teams have only met once at Marvel Stadium with Sydney winning that game in 2023;
Gold Coast v Melbourne
Gold Coast finally won away from home. Melbourne, despite their chances of making finals being over, have won the last five clashes between these sides on the Gold Coast;
GWS v Fremantle
GWS has won six in a row and moved up to third on the AFL ladder. A big game for both sides, noting that Fremantle has yet to beat GWS in three previous encounters at ENGIE stadium;
Collingwood v Brisbane
Collingwood simply must win to keep their premiership defence alive and Brisbane will be desperate to get back into the top four. These sides have only played each other twice at the MCG since 2015 with Collingwood winning both games;
St Kilda v Geelong
Geelong had a great win over Fremantle and will be keen to retain its place in the top four;
Port Adelaide v Adelaide
After four successive wins Port are up to second, it was only a few weeks ago people were calling for Ken Hinkley to be sacked. Adelaide has won four of the last five games played between these sides and was impressive in beating Footscray on the weekend;
Western Bulldogs v North Melbourne
You would expect the Bulldogs to bounce back against the Kangaroos (see what I did there) 😊
Hawthorn v Richmond
Hawthorn finally got into the top eight and I certainly don’t see them giving up their spot by losing to Richmond; and
West Coast v Carlton
Somehow West Coast found a way to win on the weekend and might just think they are a sneaky chance against a Carlton side that has lost five of its last six games and picked up five injuries in its 74-point loss to Hawthorn. On the other side of the coin, Carlton has won its last two games v West Coast at Optus Stadium.
Please note that as we use the FootyTips website to host our competition we are compelled to adhere to the rules of that website. These rules are available on the website but a couple that are worth drawing to your attention are:
1: If you fail to enter any tips for the round you will be allocated all away teams but the maximum default score for the round will be capped at 5; and
2: If you don’t submit a tip (or a margin) for the nominated game of the week you will be allocated the away team and a margin of zero.
Good Luck and thanks for the support.
