What’s Happening in Careers?

Year 10

This week students spent time exploring ‘The Careers Department’ website – adding to their profiles to discover different pathways that are of interest to them. Students can access this from home.

Year 11

UniReady 2025 

Applications are closed for the Curtin UniReady course in 2025. Students have been advised by email if they have been successful. 

Students will select UniReady as one of their six subjects in 2025. They will also need to enrol in a Certificate IV which they complete on Thursdays. The information session will be held next Monday to discover Cert IVs on offer. Students who are not enrolled in the UniReady program can still enrol in Certificate IV. Queries regarding these qualifications should be directed to Mrs Johnson.

Year 12

Mrs Peta Paduano and I have been actively meeting with Year 12 students to discuss pathways, scholarships, and interview preparation. If your son needs any assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out.

This term, we will focus on budgeting and managing expenses after school. We have spoken about scholarships and in Week 9, we will hear from our 2023 graduates about life after school.

Last  Friday, we were fortunate to host all universities for 'one-on-one' counselling sessions. Year 12 students have booked appointments to discuss their future options. A big thank you to Mrs Eaton for organising these sessions before her departure.

Defence Force ‘Day in the Life’ Program

The Defence Work Experience Program provides young Australians interested in Defence as a future career, the opportunity to sample life in Defence and learn more about the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and the Australian Public Service (APS). Murdoch University Open Nights

Join the team from Murdoch University as they explore courses in Health and Education and Stem, Environmental and Life Sciences.

The evenings will allow participants to explore expo stalls from each of the Murdoch course areas and engage with speakers throughout the evening by attending TEDx style 10-minute information sessions.

• Health & Education - Wednesday 28th of August from 5:30 pm. See how a degree from Murdoch University can prepare you for a career within health industries or teaching the next generation of thinkers. Learn how you can use your passion for sport, rehabilitation, language, science, leadership and compassion to improve the lives of others. 
• STEM, Environmental and Life Science - Thursday 29th of August from 5:30 pm. Explore how a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics degree from Murdoch University equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to solve complex problems, think critically, and adapt to new technologies.
• Business, Law and Criminology, Humanities, Arts and Social Science - Wednesday 4th of September from 5:30 pm. Be inspired to use the power of analysis, communication, creativity, and storytelling to challenge the way we think about, look at and understand the world.

Notre Dame

• Pathways to Health Science and Medicine virtual information session exploring undergraduate programs in Health Sciences and new opportunities for students interested in studying Medicine and Physiotherapy.

University Early Offers 

To be considered for an early offer complete your TISC application and your first preference will automatically be considered for an early offer if you are eligible.

Early offers will be made on set dates, that is, early offer rounds. These dates are:

• Monday 2 September 2024
• Tuesday 24 September 2024
• Monday 14 October 2024
• Monday 18 November 2024 (after the WACE examinations conclude)
• Monday 2 December 2024

The University of Notre Dame Australia is conducting its own Early Offer process for their Young Achievers program as it has done for a number of years. Notre Dame will be making offers on a progressive basis from 2 September through until 11 December 2024.

Allow around two weeks for the university to assess your application.

Check whether the course you are applying for is included in the early offer program by visiting the Curtin, ECU, Murdoch, Notre Dame, and UWA websites. For more information about Early Offers click HERE

Scholarships

Many scholarships for university in 2025 are now open. Universities offer two main types of scholarships: Academic Superstars and Equity Scholarships.

Please don’t assume you won’t win a scholarship. There are so many scholarships that some are left on the table because no one applies for them!
