Key Information

Morning Bell
Each morning, the bell rings at 8.50am to signal that children may enter the classroom and begin their day. To ensure teachers can provide for optimal learning, we ask that you allow the teachers time prior to 8.50am to organise for the day. We understand that sometimes a meeting is required, for this we recommend organising a time with your teacher. It is important that you remain outside the building (weather permitting) to supervise your child in the playground until the yard duty teacher arrives at 8.45am.
Hats and Water Bottles
As we are a SunSmart school, learners have been reminded to bring their hats labelled with their name, to school every day in Term One and Term Four to protect them from the sun when outside. We also recommend that you apply sunscreen with your child before they come to school in these terms. If you haven’t done so already, please provide a refillable water bottle, labelled with your child’s name to be stored in the classroom.
Swimming
Students will participate in Swimming during Week 6 and Week 8. Swimming is optional for students and parents can opt in or out via Compass. At the commencement of the swimming sessions, students will be placed in an appropriately levelled group using the data from the parent survey and an initial swimming observation. Across 6 sessions, they will learn water safety and swimming skills. At the conclusion of each session, students will be required to individually dry and dress themselves.
Students who are not participating in swimming, will be participating in a water safety program. During these 6 sessions, they will explore various bodies of water, relevant dangers, how to seek help and how to be safe around water. Students will participate in hands on tasks with real life applications.
Home Learning
Home Learning began in Week 2 and we would like to take this opportunity to kindly remind families that Home Learning is designed to complement and reinforce classroom learning at Glen Waverley Primary School. The Home Learning tasks are intentionally designed to be manageable for students to complete as independently as possible. We would appreciate your support in checking in with your child before the due date to support them with their organisation skills.
If, for any reason, your child is unable to complete their Home Learning, we encourage you to please communicate their classroom teacher in advance to inform them. This open communication helps us provide the necessary support and ensures that your child stays on track with their learning progress.
