Little Learners

What a beautiful beginning we had with our Little Learners. Tuesday was our Little Learners' very first day together. We were very impressed with how confidently and calmly the children stepped into their new learning space. Starting school is such a big milestone not just for the children, but for families too, and it was wonderful to see so many smiling (and brave!) faces as we began this exciting transition to school program.

Our focus for the first day was gently introducing school routines and expectations. These early weeks are all about building confidence, independence and a sense of belonging at All Saints’.

The children practised:

  • Lining up in two lines
  • Using the toilet independently
  • Sitting down for meals
  • Packing away their own belongings
  • Caring for our learning space

We were so impressed by how quickly they began following instructions and engaging with one another. Learning these everyday routines helps children feel safe and capable in their school environment.

A very special highlight of the day was a visit from our Year 5/6 students. Our older students came to read stories and spend time playing a game of Pet Shop in the sports shed with the Little Learners at the end of the day. It was lovely to watch the older students model kindness and leadership, and equally lovely to see the Little Learners listening so attentively and joining in with confidence. These cross-age connections help our youngest learners feel part of the wider school community from the very beginning.

We are so excited for the weeks ahead as we continue building routines, friendships and school readiness skills together.
