Year 5/6

What a wonderful few weeks we have been having in our Year 5/6 classroom! The students are settled, motivated and showing such pride in their learning. It has been wonderful to watch their progress.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, the students made a collective decision to strengthen their multiplication knowledge, particularly their times tables. We are impressed with the students' ownership of learning.
To develop their knowledge we have been;
- Playing engaging multiplication games
- Challenging each other with quick-fire recall activities
Using multiplication questions as our “entry and exit tickets” each day
This consistent practice is helping students build automatic recall, which supports problem solving, division strategies and multi-step reasoning tasks. Fluency in times tables is such an important foundation in Stage 3.
You may want to challenge them at home!
NSW Mathematics Syllabus Links (Stage 3):
- MA3-6NA – Selects and applies appropriate strategies for multiplication and division, and applies these to solve problems
MA3-2WM / MA3-3WM – Selects and applies appropriate problem-solving strategies and gives reasons for mathematical thinking
Religion
In Religion, we have been learning about the season of Lent. Our focus has been on the three “weapons” of Lent:
- Prayer
- Fasting
Almsgiving
The students have explored how these three practices help bring us closer to God and support us in building positive, faith-filled habits. We have had thoughtful discussions about how small, consistent actions can shape who we become. It has been beautiful to see the students reflect on how they can live out these practices in meaningful, age-appropriate ways and follow in the footsteps of Jesus.
Creative Arts
In Creative Arts, we have been developing our watercolour techniques, with a strong focus on blending. Students have experimented with colour gradients, brush control and layering to create depth in their artwork.
Bringing together our learning across subjects, students combined English and Science knowledge to create stunning watercolour paintings of the Solar System. Their artworks demonstrate:
