ADVSSA School Swimming Carnival

On Friday the 27th February, St Mary’s sent a highly capable and excited team to the Ascot Vale District School Swimming Carnival.

We were ecstatic to win the carnival on the day, which was backed up by some incredible individual swims and several wins in the relay races.

Our shout out for the day was watching Hazel Gadsby not only take home the win in the 50m freestyle, but also swim an amazing fourth leg in the 50m freestyle relay to take our team from 3rd to second in our heat. Hazel was able to make up a third of a pool length to bring it home.

Our success means that 20 of 27 swimmers that competed on the day have progressed to the next round of competition. We wish them good luck for their competition next Tuesday.

We'd also like to give a special thankyou to all parents and students who showed up in the early morning on the 13th of September for the SMAV Swim Trials. We were all so impressed at how may students turned up to try out. If you did not make it into the team next year, make sure you come back next year and give it another crack!

ADVSSA Grade 6 Gala Day

On Wednesday the 4th March, competition got underway at the annual Ascot Vale District Summer Gala Day. The first of two days of competition, our team in soccer, cricket and tennis competed admirably across all their matches to all finish with positive winning records.

All teachers were most impressed with the positive spirit the Grade 6s competed with across the whole day.

We also saw the girls soccer team and the boys cricket team both go undefeated the whole day.

What was particularly impressive about our girls soccer team was none of them had previously played competitive soccer before. Well done girls!

Let’s wish them luck on day two of the competition on Friday 24th April.
