From The Team
Over the past two weeks in the Senior School, students have settled in beautifully and embraced a range of engaging learning opportunities. With NAPLAN approaching, classes have begun focused preparation, building confidence in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions and Numeracy through targeted practice and familiarisation with question types.
Our Year 5/6 students have enthusiastically launched into their swimming program, demonstrating positive attitudes, resilience, and a willingness to challenge themselves in the water. Back in the classroom, our Year 3/4 students have begun an 'Under the Sea' research project, and we can’t wait to share what they all come up with.
Our mathematicians have been strengthening their understanding of the four operations, applying strategies to solve increasingly complex problems and explain their thinking. Students showed a lot of resilience in these lessons, recalling previous knowledge and overcoming tricky problems.
In Literacy, students have been developing their persuasive writing skills - exploring how authors share opinions, structure arguments and use convincing language to influence their audience. Meanwhile, in Digital Technologies, students have begun designing their own personalised keychains using Tinkercad, learning the fundamentals of 3D design before bringing their creations to life through 3D printing.
On Monday 2nd March, SPS is taking part in a Clean Up Our Community event in our local area. During the middle session (12.30-1.45pm), students and teachers will be divided into three groups and walking to three different local parks where they will use gloves and tongs to pick up rubbish. The students will be briefed prior to the event as to what they are allowed to pick up and what they are not. This event is the first of our Scoresby Superstars activities for the year.
We also proudly celebrated our student leaders at assembly during our recent badge presentation ceremony, recognising our captains and the important role they play in modelling our school values, supporting peers and contributing positively to our school community. It has been a fantastic start to the term, and we look forward to the continued growth, creativity and enthusiasm across our Senior School.

Buddies
On the 16th of February, we gathered the Year 6s and Foundation students together for a Buddies session! We got to connect, read and talk with our buddies while reading stories to each other. Everyone was laughing, chatting and smiling while they shared their books. The purpose of this Buddies session was to help the Foundation students feel more comfortable with their Year 6 buddies.
The Preps improved their reading skills and vocabulary as the Year 6s helped them read, and it was fantastic to watch them engage and bond with each other! The whole experience felt happy and exciting. Everyone worked really well together, and it was set up perfectly so that we could all enjoy the time and have fun while learning too.

Breakfast Club
Last week, we had the first Breakfast Club with the new Preps! We had pancakes, fruit, toast, cereal, chocolate milk and juice. There was a sign and a table for all the new Preps. They got to enjoy their first Wednesday at school, completing their first full week at school. We listened to some really good music while talking to our friends and buddies. This was the most fun Breakfast Club with the Preps. Thank you to all the teachers for setting this up. We really hope the Preps come again!

Gardening
Over the past two weeks, the Year 5/6 and Year 3/4 classes have been gardening during Integrated Studies. We learned how to carefully remove weeds properly and make sure all the garden waste was put into the bins. The Year 5/6 students filled three whole bins! By clearing the weeds, we helped make our garden healthier and more productive. It was one of the most fun and exciting Integrated Studies lessons we have ever had!
