Hello to our wonderful Junior School families!
The last fortnight has been action-packed in the Junior School!
In Integrated Studies we’ve been learning all about the Winter Olympics, and we didn’t just learn about them…we became Winter Olympians! The hall transformed into our very own Olympic arena as students competed in ice skating races, bobsled challenges, and other winter-inspired events. There was teamwork, plenty of cheering, and lots of laughter as students embraced the fun and friendly competition.
It was wonderful to see so many families attend our Foundation Family Breakfast Club. The sense of community was so special and the smiles (and full tummies!) set our students up beautifully for the day.
The Junior School students have made a smooth start with our new Kiss and Go routine. We are so proud of how independent our students are becoming. It’s fantastic to see them confidently unpack their bags, organise themselves, and jump straight into learning each morning.
Speaking of jumping in…our ‘Jump into Junior School’ day was a huge success! Students dressed in bright colours to celebrate being part of our Junior School community. The day was filled with making delicious ice cream sandwiches, creating monster crafts, and going on an outdoor scavenger hunt that had everyone buzzing with excitement.
We also loved sharing our Teddy Bear Picnic afternoon with so many of you. Students made crowns during the day and proudly wore them for the picnic. Families joined in the fun with biscuit decorating, a game of musical statues, and a scavenger hunt complete with a very excited lucky winner!
Despite all the exciting activities, our classrooms have been buzzing with learning. Foundation students have been focusing on the s, a, t, p, i, n sounds, practising reading and writing these letters, and developing their number sense through subitising, counting, and exploring which groups have more or less. It’s been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they apply these skills in class. Meanwhile, our Year 1/2 students have been revising Write2Read rules, building writing stamina, generating ideas, and deepening their understanding of place value in Maths.
Parent Helpers
A huge thank you to all families who attended the parent helper sessions this week. We can’t wait to have our special helpers working with us in the Junior School. If you didn’t attend but would like to help in any way, please chat to your child’s teacher; we would love to have you! This invitation is also extended to grandparents, as we know many families have grandparents who would enjoy volunteering.
Parent-Teacher Interviews
Parent-Teacher interviews are next week and bookings are now open on Compass. If you need help booking a time, please speak with your child’s teacher or the office staff. Please note, if your child recently had an SSG meeting, you do not need to book a Parent-Teacher interview.
Clean Up Our Community Event
On Monday 2nd March, SPS is taking part in a Clean Up Our Community event in our local area. During the middle session (12.30-1.45pm), students and teachers will be divided into three groups and walking to three different local parks where they will use gloves and tongs to pick up rubbish. The students will be briefed prior to the event as to what they are allowed to pick up and what they are not. This event is the first of our Scoresby Superstars activities for the year.
We hope you all have a wonderful fortnight!

We’re Going on a Shape Hunt
Set yourself a timer for 10 minutes and count how many different 2D shapes you can find around your house. This is a fun game to play with a family member too!
Jump Into the Junior School
Last week, our Foundation and Year 1/2 students had so much fun at our Jump into the Junior School day! Dressed in their brightest colours, the children truly lit up the school with their excitement and energy. Students rotated through fun activities, including making yummy ice cream sandwiches, creating their own quirky monster letters, and heading outside for a scavenger hunt adventure.
We are so proud of the way our students joined in, encouraged one another and embraced the day. What a fabulous way to celebrate our Junior School!
Teddy Bear Picnic
The Junior School Teddy Bear Picnic is definitely a highlight of Term 1 - and not just because of our special visit from Super Ted! Students and siblings decorated teddy bear biscuits, played a fun game of Teddy Bear Freeze, completed a scavenger hunt, and enjoyed an afternoon tea shared with families and friends. It was a wonderful community event and we thank all those who were able to attend!
Winter Olympics
The Winter Olympics came to life in Integrated Studies this week as students became Winter Olympians, competing in ice skating races, bobsled challenges and other winter-themed events.
