Primary School

It’s one of the most exciting weeks of the year: Book Week. As I went about my weekend rituals of food shopping and planning for the week ahead, I found myself in Kmart and I was surprised by the number of people in the costume section. Then it dawned on me: Book Week. As parents had lively conversations with their children about their favourite characters, I started to reminisce and reflect just how important this week really is. Book Week is not just about dressing up, but acknowledging literature, having conversations about the books’ contents and realising the joy a book can bring in a society often dominated by technology.

Book Week is all about celebrating the magic of reading. It’s a wonderful chance to enhance your child’s love of reading and encourage them to try new genres and authors. The joy and excitement throughout the Primary School today as students guessed characters and marvelled at the creativity of each other’s costumes, could not help but put a smile on everyone’s faces.

Book Week Door Displays

Each class put a huge amount of effort into creating their door displays based on a book or genre. The mission was to pick a short-listed book, but some classes wanted to instead capture the magic of Book Week or align their door with their term’s learning. Year Three brought the gross; Pre-Primary swept us into a Concrete Garden; Year One tried to steal us away into a Bower Bird nest of blue; Kindergarten threw around the Colours of the Country; and these were just a few.

If you have not already, please wander around the Primary School and take a look!

Year Five camp

Student Reflection

On Monday 4 August the Year Five students and our teachers were very excited to leave for camp. We were welcomed by a very comfortable bus. The journey was not a long as we thought it would be and at about 3.00pm we arrived in Perth. We unpacked our bags and had time to run around camp, some people went to the beach to explore while others played soccer with Mr Osborne. After dinner we played 'Escape from Quarantine' which was heaps of fun.

The next morning, we woke up and had a scrumptious breakfast. Then we started our activities.  First, we split into two groups and then we started our first activity. Our first activity was a bike ride around Woodman Point, then we did archery instead of beach activities because it was too cold. After a yummy lunch we had our second round of activities which was search and rescue and then team building. The search and rescue was the most fun as it entailed carrying out a rescue using clues. That night we had inside games which Miss Nichols ran.

The next day we went to Parliament House and Scitech, we caught public transport all day.  At Parliament House we had a tour and got to see where the run meetings for parliament. We also got to meet Mrs Rebecca Stephens our representative – it was fun to hear the alarm go to call everyone to sit down. We would like to thank Mrs Stephens for also providing a delicious lunch for us. Finally, for dinner we went to a place called Cicerello’s where the dinner was yummy. When we got back, we watched a bit of a movie then went to bed.

The next morning, we were all excited to be going home after such a fun few days away. We would like to thank Mr Berryman for all his hard work in organising the camp. A lot of us slept on the bus.
