Good Afternoon Parents Students, Staff and Friends of Derinya,
We've already reached the half way mark of Term 3, it's amazingly how quickly time flies!
I was lucky enough to attend Edutech earlier this week, Australia's largest education event, bringing together the entire education ecosystem to discuss, debate, and evaluate the present and future of technology in education. It was startling how ubiqutous 'Generative AI' has become in such a short period of time. It was everywhere and all throughout the conference. It will be very interesting to track how AI impacts us as teachers, students and parents in the coming months and years.
Tomorrow we celebrate 'Bullying No Way' Day by wearing a touch of purple. Teachers will make it a conversation focus throughout the day. Please encourage your children to join in and wear something purple - socks, head bands, bracelets etc.
Our annual Book Fair wraps up tomorrow morning. This will be your last chance to visit as it is all packed up for another year. We've seen bumper crowds coming through this year with lots of exciting books and small gifts for sale.
Next week promises to be another action-packed week here at Derinya:
Next Friday 23rd August we celebrate Book Week with our traditional Book Week Dress-up Day! This is absolutely one of our favourite days of the year, with the whole school getting behind it and coming dressed in character. Assembly also promises to be a lot of fun as we all celebrate the world of books together!
Monday 19th August is our Grade 6 Market Day, one of the highlights of the year for many. Our Grade 6s have been hard at work writing their business plans, fine tuning their products and pushing out their marketing campaigns in preparation for the big day. Send your children along with some pocket money so they can get involved in all the fun of the market. All proceeds will towards the Grade 6 Challenge Program which kicks off in Term 4.
Thursday 22nd August is a special day for our Preppies as they head out on their first ever excursion. They'll be spending the day at Myuna Farm, let's hope the sun comes out and they have a beautiful day. One more reminder to all families to book in your times for Parent-Teacher Interviews which will be held on Wednesday 28th August. This is a great chance for you to catch up with your child's teacher to find out about their social and academic progress. Interviews are now open through the Xuno app & will be held face to face onsite.
