Student Voice &

Positive Environment

Throughout the second half of term, there have been many opportunities for our students to actively have their voice heard both in school and the wider community. Our SRC has continued to meet regularly and are ensuring they are expressing the collective voice of their year level each time they meet. The members have also had an opportunity to meet with like-minded students from other schools in the area at the Voice of Young People and the second Joanne Ryan Forum. The Voice of Young People excursion consisted of five of our SRC representatives- Tala Clarete, Aidan Butcher, Bailey Walker, Oskar Iles and Rishik Verma, who had the opportunity to help evaluate the Wydnham Councils 2040 plan and contribute to the 2050 plan. They were also given the opportunity to address the Wyndham Council Mayor Jennie Barrera on issues they saw are important to young people today. They also enjoyed the opportunity to be seated in the council chambers.

The second round of the Joanne Ryan forum also gave our students an opportunity to discuss issues that effect students and the local area with the Federal member for Lalor, Joanne Ryan. Our students were also able to voice their opinions and discussed issues with other schools and also had to create a 90 second speech to present to students from other schools on their issue of concern. It was great to see that although we only had three students attend, they represented our college with pride. Well done to Tala Clarete, Aidan Butcher and Sofia Hla for your participation.

During the SRC meetings, students have also been given the opportunity to make suggestions as to what the college will look like in 2025 as part of the reimagining work currently occurring. Ms Gagatsis presented to the students the planning completed so far and gave them some thinking to do for what it was they wanted to contribute to this.

There was also recently the completion of two focus groups with a selection of our year 7 students on the impact of the classroom environment and gained their feedback as to what they believed an effective classroom to look like, sound like and feel like. This will help the college continue to plan for and cater to the needs of our students.
