Rockin' Resilience

Resilience is the ability to bounce back after challenges and tough times. Resilient children can recover from setbacks. Resilience develops when children experience challenges and learn to deal with them positively.

We are holding a Rockin' Resilience Day at Newlands next term to support families to build upon their knowledge around empowering their children's resilience.

Rockin' Resilience Day will be on Thursday 14th November.

The day will begin with a parent information forum from 2:30 p.m. - 3:30p.m.

A panel of professionals will provide information around what resilience is and how to support the building of resilience.

We are currently negotiating with several professionals who will be there as keynote speakers and will provide more detailed information on the event early next term.

Family fun activities will follow the parent forum. These activities will have an emphasis on building individual and family resilience.

This fun activity session will happen in the school gym from 3:45 p.m. - 4:45. p.m. after the parent forum.

Our school wellbeing team will be facilitating this activity.

School Reconciliation Plan

Last week we met with our school Koorie Education Support Officer (Tyrell Moore) to complete the 2024 Cultural Action Plan for our school. This involved looking at what our current practices and documentation are.

We were able to identify the components of the plan that we were doing well in and highlight the areas where we need to take action. Tyrell will provide us with a detailed report and this will be used to support the review of our school RAP. He is also available to guide us to access appropriate supports and resources which we will be able  utilise to support the continued implementation of our RAP using the Marrung Education Strategy as a basis.

These include:

  • that the rich and thriving culture, knowledge and experience of our First Nations peoples are celebrated by all members of our community.
  • our practices are responsive and respectful of Koorie people at every stage of their learning and school journey
  • that every Koorie student achieves their potential and feels strong in their cultural identity.

A community meeting will be held on Tuesday 15th October at 2:30 to review and update our RAP.

All interested members of our community are invited to attend. We will make access to this meeting through teams for those unable to attend in person. An invite link will be in my next Wellbeing report.
