NAPLAN Results

The state and national data has been collated and the Department was pleased with the 2024 results, especially at the primary school level.

Some notable results include:

  • Victorian Year 3 students achieved the highest scores for reading and numeracy of any jurisdiction for the third year in a row.
  • Victoria achieved the first or second highest mean scores of all jurisdictions in 7 out of 8 measures in reading and writing and achieved the top results in the country for writing in Years 5, 7 and 9.
  • The results for Years 3, 7 and 9 in reading were an improvement on the 2023 results, in spite of the national trend.
  • Victoria’s reading performance improved overall in 2024.

While the Department was happy with the results, they identified areas for improvement. These include, reducing the number of students in the category of Needs Additional Support and developing ways to better engage and support the learning of secondary students, especially in years 7 to 9.

Our school’s results showed the percentage of Year 7s in the Strong or Exceeding categories was above similar schools, network and state results in all 5 measures of NAPLAN (reading, writing, grammar and punctuation, spelling and numeracy). This is a fantastic result, due to the hard work of our Primary Schools.

Our Year 9 results showed the percentage of Year 9s in the Strong or Exceeding categories were above similar schools, network and state results in 3 measures (reading, writing and numeracy).

While percentage results are what the Department chases, the growth shown in a student’s learning is equally important. When comparing a students’ current score to their prior performance in NAPLAN, the majority of Year 7 students achieved well in Grade 5 and continued to do so in all measures in Year 7. The majority of Year 9s showed learning gains by maintaining their level of performance since Year 7 in the measures of reading, writing and numeracy. Well done to our teachers who continue to maximise student learning.

Opinion Survey

The DET Parent / Caregiver Opinion Survey is open again and the data collected gives us an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. Currently, 23 out of 120 (19%) of people have responded. We would love to hear from more families though. Please refer to the email or Compass newsfeed for login details for the survey. Taking only about 20 minutes, it closes Friday 30th August.
