Around the TAFEs

Our students have been very busy on their Wednesday VET TAFE days with many completing lots of practical work and visiting valuable sites to enhance their courses.

Certificate II in Animal studies student Mikayla Stockdale visited Myuna Farm to learn more about the needs of various animals including hands on skills to care for the many different species of animals on the farm.  Health and safety issues are also used and discussed.

Certificate II Plumbing students Tocobye Tabia and Regan Skinner have been learning how to weld pipes so there are no leaks before installing these in homes.  They are also learning how to ‘Fit Out’ a bathroom including installing all the necessary pipes and taps.  Students are using an average sized bathroom frame to gain actual practical knowledge and skills.

Certificate II Work Skills student Branaa Rajeevan participated in planning and running a fundraiser at Swinburne College to raise funds for Children’s Cancer.  Students, in groups, designed their stall, planned, and budgeted their costs, advertised the event, and put the event together on the day.

Balloon Football

SCOPE’s Southern Balloon Football League’s Season 2025 came to a close the week before last, so a very exciting Finals week pursued. Demons played Bulldogs (Top 2 on Season Ladder), and the Lions faced off in the Elimination Final against Tigers. The Bulldogs went straight through to the Grand Final, whilst the Demons have an extra chance of being Grand Finalists if they can knock off the Lions this week.

It has been so pleasing to see our Year 12s embrace the opportunity to lead and participate in community outreach, while mentoring the Year 11s into this role. Many of them have been fantastic in supporting the participants of Balloon Footy, a great inclusive sporting competition.

The construction of two huge Grand Final Banners now becomes our focus.

Car Club

Under the guidance of Mr Brown, students with an interest in cars and who have an engineering type of mind participate in the Car/Engineering Club, a lunchtime activity available to any student. It is great to see both genders represented.
