Around the College
M Cubed
Six students attended the M Cubed conference held at St Bede's, Bentleigh East. The morning began with an inspirational talk from Monash professor Dr Denise Chapman on students understanding their abilities and the joy of sharing them with others.
The day had students in tournament of the minds activities where they worked together to creating stories and their ideas around particular constraints, as well as use their existing knowledge different scenarios.
Students represented the College in an impeccable manner. Well done.

Vinnies News
August has been a busy month for the Vinnies.
On Friday, 23 August, we held our annual Winter Sleepout. The weather gods were not as kind as previous years, but the rain and wind did nothing to dampen the spirits of all those who attended.
Starting with the soup kitchen in the Joseph Centre, Mrs Murphy delighted us with her delicious soups, which were greatly appreciated by those who arrived for food.
The evening consisted of a beautiful prayer service, organised by some of the Vinnie students, followed by rotational ice breaker games which all students enthusiastically participated in. Students enjoyed supper, supplied by the marvellous NCCA, consisting of delicious homemade cupcakes! Roasting marshmallows was a windy affair, and the film viewing did not quite reach the end as it was so late!
Students either slept in the gymnasium or a tent. Thankfully, no one flew away!
WE DID IT!
Thank you to everyone who helped Nazareth achieve their goal in the Winter Sleepout! This includes those who participated in the event, the staff who volunteered to supervise the evening, and many individuals who donated via the online portal (students, staff, family & friends). Thanks to the Vinnies for their organisation and advertising of this event. Finally, to the admin staff for updating permission letters daily, maintenance for set up of fire pits, Mr Brenton and his class for setting up tents and Ms Burnett for ensuring our event was safe.
Our fundraising goal was $2500, and at last count, we had raised $2600.
This is an outstanding achievement and will make a massive difference in the lives of so many.
On the same day, we held the inaugural ' Comfy Clothes Day'. This was an initiative of our President Julie Hoang. The concept was that all students could come to school in comfy clothes and pay $3, to raise money for Beyond Blue. Another successful outcome in that the school raised approximately $1700; a fantastic achievement supported by our students.
Well done everyone.
Youth Engagement Day
On Friday 30 August, Nazareth hosted the Vinnies Youth Engagement Day for the second year running. This year, five other schools came to Nazareth to participate in activities organised by the Youth Engagement Team and got to hear all about what other schools do in their Social Justice / Vinnies groups throughout the year. Each school presented by focussing on THINK- LOOK- DO motto. Nazareth had a team of 10 students. I would like to thank each of them for their engagement and participation in this event.

SIS Athletics
The SIS Athletics Carnival was held on Monday 26 August at Casey Fields. The weather was much more pleasant than when we held the House Athletics Carnival a couple of weeks earlier.
Our students gave it their all, with our Junior Boys winning a pennant. Congratulations to all our students who competed, and thank you to the staff who helped on the day.

SIS Debating
On Friday 23 August, an excited team of debaters from Nazareth headed off to Rivercrest College for the much-anticipated first round of SIS Debating. As soon as we arrived, we began rehearsing and improving our prepared debates, asking each other and the teachers for feedback. It proved to be a day where we learnt new skills, made some friends and refined our debating skills. Overall, we performed well – especially considering that some of our team members had to be transferred into other age divisions at the last minute!
At times, we found ourselves up against some highly skilled opponents. However, we used this as an opportunity to observe their expertise and incorporate this into our own arguments. In fact, the Nazareth seniors team returned to school victorious, having won their unprepared debate!
The juniors team were also keen to participate in their very first Nazareth College debates, watching the older students debate to learn from their experiences. They put in an admirable effort and many are eager to continue. With several years of practice ahead of them, perhaps one day they’ll be Nazareth’s best debaters…
Many thanks to Mr. Indge, Ms. Stockdale, and any other staff members who helped us along the way and made this enjoyable day possible.

Year 7 Art
This term Year 7D Art students examined the work of Bernadette Twomey, an artist from Brisbane, who paints colourful, abstract botanical artworks. The focus was colour mixing, using a warm or cool colour scheme. They were instructed to build up layers of colourful botanical shapes in their preferred colour scheme and finished with details of line and pattern in black and white.
