Careers News

Turning Chaos to Calm

Term 3 in the Joseph Centre is like the Premiership Quarter for AFL players, there’s lots of moves and strategies, hard conversations, match-ups and determination to get chocolates in the end. The Careers Team have been jostling and cajoling, handballing between each other in every attempt to make sure paths to success are clear for our Year 10s to 12.

Over the last few weeks the Careers Team has met with every Year 12 student to confirm their journey post Nazareth and support the applications for apprenticeships, University, TAFE and work. It has been wonderful to help some who start the meetings quite nervous students but leave feeling better with a confidence they have a plan and can get on with finishing their studies.

Year 10 Careers

Year 10s are moving into the final stage of their Careers Programme. This year, students have worked through a Career Tool package to give them skills to begin the next phase of their Career plan. They have had an opportunity to reflect on their own interests and strengths, finished completed work experience to determine what they may want to do (or not do), visited a careers exhibition, reflected on workplaces, research pathways and subjects in VCE to meet their career goals,  participated in a careers and subject expo, looked at the future of work and the labour market. To complete the course, students will find a job advertisement for a part time job, create a resume and cover letter, and participate in a mock interview.

Help the next generation of tradies, chefs and more

Did you know that we have some amazing students completing VCE through a Vocational Major program? Some of the 2024 graduating class have already secured apprenticeships and jobs for next year. One has already begun their own beauty business and is taking clients.

Structured Workplace Learning provides students with the opportunity to integrate on-the-job experience with secondary study as part of VCE Vocational Major. Our classes of 2025 and 2026 will be looking for Structured Work Placements next year. Please contact our Careers Practitioner Theresa (Theresa.Lochery@nazareth.vic.edu.au or 03 8797 4383) if your organisation would like to consider taking on one of our students one day a week for whatever time they can. It’s a no obligation conversation to see if we have the right student to contribute to your organisation.  It’s a great way to help foster our students to be work-ready and spread the good news about our amazing, employable Nazareth students.
