Numeracy Week and the Mini-Olympics

Last week we hosted a mini-Olympics for students across the school.

Each classroom had a country that they were representing in activities held in gym at lunch time. The winning country for the Mini-Olympics lunch time activities was Brazil- represented by 0DH.

Students also participated in a scavenger hunt with clues located around the school for them to find. This led to lots of looking for the pole vaulting record and the high jump results hidden in the yard!

In classrooms, students participated in a range of Olympic themed activities with a numeracy focus.

Family Maths Workshops

Last Wednesday night we held our first Family Maths Workshops for students in Years F-2. Foundation teachers showed how making fruit skewers could help students develop knowledge of pattern, colour and shape. Year 1 teachers led pattern making with coloured pasta and the year 2 teachers used origami to create creeping caterpillars to help build student understanding of simple fractions, shape and symmetry.

Thank you to all of the families who came along and made our night so much fun!
