Book Week
Book Week at Sacred Heart has been such a magical and special time. The CBCA Book Week provides students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in a world of imagination, creativity, and learning. Through engaging activities and discussions centered around this year's theme, 'Reading is Magic,' Book Week not only encourages literacy but also fosters empathy and a lifelong passion for books. Established with the first awards in 1946, the CBCA Book of the Year Awards aim to:
- Promote quality literature for young Australians by Australian creators.
- Support and encourage a diverse range of Australian writers and illustrators of books for young people.
- Celebrate contributions to Australian children’s literature.
Our students in P-2 had the opportunity to watch an online performance during Book Week, inspired by the award-winning book 'Timeless'. Meanwhile, the Grade 3-6 students enjoyed a performance based on the nominated book 'Being Jimmy Baxter'.
At assembly our P-2 children presented the books that they had read with their class. Over the week the children participated in rotation activities with the teachers.
With Miss Donnelly, we read ‘If I Was a Horse’. This book encourages us to use our imagination and find joy in being ourselves. After reading, we made unicorns using paper plates and other materials!
Ryder - Year 2
With Miss Wood, we read ‘The Concrete Garden’. This story shows how we can make a big difference by working together. Even a dull place can become colourful with creativity and teamwork. After reading, we designed our own concrete gardens using oil pastels!
Elwood - Year 2
With Miss Maloney, we read ‘Bear and Duck Are Friends’. This is a sweet story about how friends care for each other and have fun together. Even though Bear and Duck are different, they show that true friends share, help, and enjoy time together. The book reminds us that real friends support each other and appreciate their differences. After reading, we made Bear and Duck bookmarks!
Edie - Year 2
With Miss Prosser, we read ‘Can You Teach a Fish to Climb a Tree?’. This fun book shows that everyone has their own special talents, and that’s what makes us unique. It teaches us to celebrate what makes each person special. After reading, we made fish kites!
Sam - Year 2
Dress Up Parade
A big thank you and acknolwedgement to our students and parents for all your efforts with the Book Week Parade. The morning parade was a great success, it is always a highlight on the Sacred Heart calander. Whilst these events can lead to some last-minute shopping trips and glue gun activities, the excitement on the children's faces make it all worthwhile.
If any families have a copy of Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl and would be willing to donate it to Sacred Heart, we would greatly appreciate it. We are working to assemble a class set for our Year Two students.
