We are learning to synthesise Non-Fiction. 

 

I can use personal knowledge to share what I thought first. (before reading) 

I can combine new information with my personal knowledge. (during) 

I can share why my thinking has changed. (after) 


VOCABULARY

Synthesise: combining what you already know with what you are learning in a text. 

Non- Fiction: based on facts, information that is true.


ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Select a non-fiction text to read with your child at home. 

 

Before reading, ask your child what they might already know about the topic.  

 

Read a couple of pages with your child and then pause and reflect on what you have read. Ask your child if there are any keywords or facts they didn’t know before reading. 

 

After reading, have your child discuss the new things they learned from reading the 

non-fiction text.
