We are learning to consider the audience and purpose when drafting an explanation text. 

VOCABULARY

Explanation text: a nonfiction piece of writing which explains how or why something happens.

Audience: Who will be reading the text?

Purpose: Why are we writing this text?

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Ask your child to read the text, “How do bees make honey?” or find their own example of an explanation text.  

Discuss with them: 

• Who do you think the audience of this text would be?
• Why has this text been written?
