Year 12 Graduation

Jazz Syndicate performed as foyer entertainment at last week’s Year 12 Graduation event. It was fabulous to see our graduating Year 12 students dressed up to the nines and proudly wearing their Year 12 sashes! While Jazz Syndicate has a few more gigs before the end of the year, this event always feels like ‘the last one’, so thank you to Benny, Chris, Heechan and Abbie for all you have contributed to Syndicate during your time in the band.

Band Captains and VCE Music students Abigail Hodge McAvaney and Heechan Hwang performed during the event, with both performances polished, professional and most of all moving and memorable. Thank you to both these students for sharing their love of music with us over the last six years.

Fyans Park Christmas Fair

Jazz Syndicate performed at the Fyans Park Christmas Fair last Friday, with current and former BHS students cheering on from the crowd. Many thanks to Ashleigh Hunter for stepping in to cover the Bari Sax part, before rushing off to her own gig at the Barwon Club!

Last Tuesday we celebrated the achievements of our Year 6 Music program students with a fabulous Concert for family and friends in the PAC.

Beginning with a poised and confident acknowledgement to country from Eva and Charlotte, 45 students then entertained the large and supportive crowd with a cracking performance of ‘Latin Magic’ by the whole band. Small group performances featured students from each section of the band, playing anything and everything, from Beethoven to Drumlines, Chinese flute and clarinet duets to Christmas Carols.

BHS offers a comprehensive transition for new students to BHS, and we are very proud to enhance this transition with our Grade 6 Music program.

We are really looking forward to welcoming almost all these students into the music program in 2025 – they are a stellar group of students!

Many thanks to instrumental music teachers Amanda Linton, Ashleigh Hunter and Emma Moffatt for their enthusiastic delivery of after school lessons over the past six weeks, and to Emma Moffatt for her expert hosting of Tuesday’s concert.

A number of music students opted to sit AMEB theory and practical exams this year. These exams are nationally accredited awards, and to achieve highly students must prepare a rigorous program of technical work and repertoire.

Our students achieved incredible results.

Congratulations to Benjamin Fuller, Rabhin O’Keife, Braydn Beckwith Smith, Hunter Day, Felix Gardner, Angus Moffatt, Elliott Savage, Rustom Surty, Asher Watts and Oscar Woods.

Theory students received marks ranging from 91 – 96 out of 100, putting them in the top 1% of the state, and Practical exam results ranged from high credit to high honours, with 4 A+ and 3 As in the mix, again placing them in the top 2% of the state.

Congratulations to all these students for their hard work and stellar results, a testament to quality music teaching at BHS, and most of all to our music students, who really do strive for the highest in all they do.
