In The 'Classroom'

What have we been learning about in Physical Education this month?

Foundation

During November the Foundation students completed their final PE assessments for the year, showcasing their skills in Gymnastics, Athletics and Target Games. It is fantastic to see how far they have come in their first year of PE. To finish the year, the Foundation classes are going back over some of the fundamental motor skills of throwing, catching and striking as they focus on Striking and Fielding skills similar to cricket and tee-ball. The greatest challenge that they are facing is working as part of a team for the first time to achieve a goal when fielding in modified games like 'Chuck the Chicken'.

Year 1 - 2

The students' in Year's 1, 2 and 3 have completed their assessments on Gymnastics, Athletics and Target Games, showing great enthusiasm and progress. To conclude the year we are playing modified Striking and Fielding games including 'Centipede Cricket', 'Chuck the Chicken' and 'Whacky Baseball'.

The students' are being challenged to think about where they may strike (or throw) a ball away from fielders or how they can work as a team to limit the amount of points/runs the opposition team can get.

Year 4 - 6

During November the senior students (including our soon to be senior students, the Year 4's) completed their final assessments admirably, showing some great improvements. They are finishing their PE learning for the year with a focus on Striking and Fielding games. They are applying their skills in two handed striking using cricket and tee ball bats and working in a team to achieve a fielding goal. Students' are being guided to apply their game sense as to where to hit gaps with the bat or where to throw the ball to limit the runs for the opposition. For the Year 4's and 5's this serves the duel purpose of introducing them to sports that they may be playing in Inter-School Sport during Term One of next year.

Hoop Time - Year 3 + 4

The 3/4 Girls All Star Team of Harper Cunningham, Abi Dillistone, Frankie Emmins, Chelsea Growse, Harper Hathway, Georgia King, Ella Magee and Gemma Eaton were successful at their recent Regional Finals event held at Frankston Basketball Centre. Thanks to Peter Growse who coached the girls for a couple of lunchtime trainings and on the day as it fell on a curriculum day. The girls will now head to the State Finals in Wantirna South next Monday the 2nd of December. We wish them all the best as they battle the states best.
