STEM @ BRPS
First Lego League
On Saturday, October 26th, BRPS sent 4 teams from Years 5 and 6 to the Richmond Regionals Competition for the First Lego League. The theme for the season was 'Submerged' which mean that the innovation project and the robot game table were based around the sea - perfect for Black Rock!
The 4 teams that competed were:
- 5ea 5quad - Jack, Sophie, Else, Vivi, Kate & Christina
- 5ea Monkey5 - Hunter, Alex, Liam, Dane, Benny, Luka & Tom
- 6uardians of the Sea - Garion, Aiobhe, Jess, Ruby, Charlotte & Millie C
- 6reat Little Mermaids - Alyssa, Nina, Millie R, Joe, Freddy & Archie
Teams are scored based on the following criteria:
Core Values – Assessed on teamwork, inclusion, and how well the team embodies the spirit of friendly competition and discovery.
Robot Design – Judged on the robot's mechanical design, programming, and the team's problem-solving approach in developing and testing the robot.
Robot Game – Teams have three robot runs on the competition table, aiming to complete as many missions as possible to achieve their highest score for the leaderboard.
Innovation Project – Evaluated on the team's creativity and research in identifying a real-world problem related to the competition theme and proposing a practical, innovative solution.
We had a very successful day, even moreso as we were competing against secondary school students from Coburg High School and Melbourne Girls College. The 6reat Little Mermaids (Robot Design) and 6uardians of the Sea (Core Values) came away with trophies on the day. 5ea 5squad (2nd best score) and 5ea Monkey5 (4th best score) also performed extremely well for their first attempt at the competition.
Well done to all of the teams on their awesome efforts over Term 3 and 4!
