Learning News 4/5/6

Years 4/5/6

I can’t believe we’re already at the end of the year! Although formal learning has started to wind down, Years 4, 5, and 6 have been busier than ever, preparing for their Presentation Day performance. As part of this, we’ve been learning some simple Auslan signs, including those for our performance song, which has been a wonderful experience for everyone.

In our music lessons, we’ve been focusing on playing the glockenspiel. The students have been working hard to practise simple Christmas songs, and it’s been delightful to hear their progress and growing confidence. At first, we all found it very challenging, as learning to coordinate the notes and timing was tricky. However, with perseverance and regular practice, most students have now learned to play part of a song.

This will be my final newsletter report for the year. If I don’t see you at Presentation Day, Graduation Mass, or around the school, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support throughout the year. I hope you have a lovely Christmas and that you can enjoy some quality time with your family over the holiday break. Wishing you all the very best for a safe and happy start to the New Year!

Stage 3 Maths

Oh my, what a fortnight we have had!

Who knew we could have so much fun exploring volume?

Students were challenged to calculate volume of oddly shaped objects using displacement.

They have practised their measuring skills by making bubble mixture of different strengths and testing it.

As teams they created frameworks of one cubic metre and estimated how many school bags (and humans) would fit it them.

They applied their knowledge of decimals to convert between millilitres and Litres and then designed a magic potion with only six ingredients which had to equal 600mL in total and ingredients could not be 100mL, otherwise it would explode!

For our final topic of the year we will explore the geometric measure of mass, in between pool parties, movies, presentation day and rehearsals!

It has been such a privilege to work with these young people each day as we explored and improved our mathematical skill and knowledge. Thank you Stage 3!
