Australia’s Greatest Ever Talent Search: Future Green and Gold

The Australian Sports Commission is looking for Australians aged 13+ who are keen to put their sporting skills to the ultimate test. The Future Green and Gold campaign will be the nation’s greatest ever talent search, with a goal to find hidden sporting talent across the country. From rugby to para canoe there is more than 40 sports ready to welcome a new wave of athletes.

 

If you haven’t tried sport before, don’t worry – no sporting experience is required to take part. The talent search is designed to help guide you towards a sport you may be best suited to.

 

The opportunity is also open to current high performance athletes who are looking to transition into a different sport.

Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast

Wednesday, 27 November

Years 5, 6 and 7 Choir students have been invited to be the feature choir at Tasmania’s 2024 Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast on Wednesday 27 November. This is a significant event and we are honoured to be asked. The audience will comprise of approximately 400 guests, including the Governor, Premier, numerous members of Parliament and business leaders from across the community. This year’s speaker is former NSW Premier, Mr Mike Baird. 

 

Please make sure that your child is dressed in the correct full uniform for their year level.

Years 9 and 10 Twilight Concert

Thursday 28 November

The Years 9 and10 Twilight Concert will take place Thursday 28 November at Hodgkin Hall, starting at 6pm.

 

Students from Years 9 and 10 music classes will present a diverse program, featuring works they've prepared throughout the semester. Admission is free and everyone is welcome to attend!

Outdoor Marimba Concert

Friday 22 November

We warmly invite you to our upcoming Outdoor Marimba Concert on Friday 22 November. Beginning at 5pm in the beautiful outdoor area beside The Farrall Centre and Walpole (Bark Chip/Courtyard), this concert will showcase the talents of our Marimba ensembles from Years 5 to 12.

 

A BBQ will be available in partnership with the Rotary Club, with all proceeds going toward their community initiatives. We look forward to sharing this special evening of music with you and your family.

Wind, Brass, and Percussion Concert

Monday 2 December

We invite you to join us for a short, informal concert featuring our wind, brass and percussion ensembles at The Farrall Centre on Monday 2 December, starting at 6pm. Performances will include students from the Intermediate Band, Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band. Families are warmly welcome to attend. 

 

This is a free and unticketed event.

Uniform Shop Summer Holidays Opening Hours

The School Shop will be closed from 5pm, Thursday 12 December 2024 and will re-open Monday 13 January 2025 at 9am for general sales and appointments. Fitting appointments are highly recommended and will be prioritised. You can book your appointments here.

 

Normal trading hours will resume on Tuesday 4 February 2025.  Open 8am to 5pm on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday.

Annual Home Base Christmas Appeal 

Every year Home Base (formerly Colony 47) offers a free community lunch in Hobart on Christmas Day for some 400 people and distributes more than 800 gifts around the state for Neighbourhood Houses and via local councils.

 

This year Home Base is asking for donations of gifts/items suitable for children 12 years old and under. Donation ideas could include toys, games, books, toiletries, school and stationery supplies, arts & craft supplies and sporting equipment.

 

Students and their families can support this initiative by bringing in donations to their Campus office, Main Office reception or Senior School Library from Monday 4 November through to Wednesday 4 December, or to the Giving Tree in the Farrall Centre Upper Level Foyer at End of Year Gathering on the evening of Wednesday 4 December.

East Coast Event - Meet Esther Hill

Thursday 21 November - 5pm to 7pm

We warmly invite families on the East Coast of Tasmania to meet Esther Hill, Principal of The Friends’ School. This event is also suitable for prospective or new families who are interested in learning more about the School's philosophy on fostering a supportive and enriching educational environment. This is also a great opportunity to connect with other Friends' families. Some complimentary light food and local Spring Vale Wines will also be served for you to enjoy.

Climate Action & Awareness Event

Sunday 1 December | 2pm - 4.30pm

 

Join us for a viewing of three short environmental films, involving a Q&A panel with Tasmanian environmental activists and documentary makers. Guest speakers include Cassy O'Connor, Pete Walsh (known for his Platypus Guardian' documentary), Grassroots Action Network representative Darcy Wright, and an owner of the Eaglehawk Neck Dive Centre. All are Welcome.

End of Year Gathering

The Friends' School warmly invites you and your family to attend our annual End of Year Gathering.

 

End of Year Gathering

Wednesday 4 December from 6.00pm

This year the theme for the End of Year Gathering is 'Community and Belonging'. This is an opportunity for The Friends’ School community to come together to listen, reflect, centre and share. The End of Year Gathering includes contributions from all sections of the School and staff. During the event we will welcome our Quaker Advisors to say a few words. We will have a variety of music to enjoy, while also allowing some time for reflection. 

 

All guests, including students in the audience, wishing to attend are requested to book via this link. Please note students who are participating or presenting are not required to book. There is a maximum of four people per booking.

The TCE & IB Art Exhibition 2024

Monday 18 November to Thursday 21 November - The Farrall Centre

 

This is a fantastic showcase of work from our TCE and IB art students. The exhibition is open during school hours (9am - 3.30pm, Monday to Thursday) from 18 - 21 November for general public viewing in The Farrall Centre at 395 Argyle Street, North Hobart.

 

Please note you do not need a ticket but we ask that you check in at the or Primary School Office prior to making your way to The Farrall Centre if you are not a staff member.

Community Yoga

Wednesdays 7.45am - 8.15am | Hodgkin Hall

An inspiring way to start your day with energising movement, focused breathing and a moment for relaxation and stillness.  All members of the school community are welcome to attend and no prior yoga experience is necessary. 

 

Julia will meet you outside the door on the Carr Street side of the Senior School at 7.40am. If you would like more information, contact our school Yoga teacher Julia Gibson.

Quaker Meetings for Worship

All members of The Friends’ School community are welcome to attend our Meeting for Worship any Sunday from 10am, closing about 11am, with morning tea available afterwards.

 

Children are always welcome and there is a Children’s Meeting held concurrently with the Meeting for Worship. They learn about Quaker values through a range of interesting and fun activities. Around 10.50am the children join the Meeting for Worship, settling into the gathered Meeting for the last 10 minutes, usually sitting with their parents.

Thursday Morning Meeting for Worship

Members of The Friends' School community are welcome to attend a short Meeting for Worship held each Thursday morning during term time, starting at 7.45am. Just come quietly in when you can and join us until 8.20am in the Hobart Quaker Meeting House, which is located just below the Middle School office on Boa Vista Road.
