Middle Learning News

Hi All,

It’s been a busy couple of weeks filled with excitement as we dive deeper into this term’s inquiry: Birth to Bloom: Discovering Nature’s Web. Students are loving this learning!

This fortnight we’ve focused on nonfictional texts to gather information. Everyone is making great progress to their reading but we still encourage regular nightly reading-we all know practise makes perfect!

Students have been conducting some research and practised some note taking skills. While reading through information they have been working on identifying the most important part and noting this in short simple words. Students researched Remembrance Day to understand the significance of this occasion. Using highlighters to pinpoint key information, they took notes and transformed these notes into a draft piece of writing. After revising their drafts through the Editing Process, students published their learning by designing posters to present their information in an engaging way.

Mathematics Update

In mathematics, we continue to practice our multiplication facts. Students are showing great enthusiasm for learning them. Many requesting ‘championships" to see who can recall their facts the fastest.

We’ve also been exploring number patterns, using problem-solving techniques to identify the rule behind each pattern and extend it. Some students were given the extra challenge of figuring out which number would appear in the 10th place, rather than just predicting the next number in the sequence. To wrap up, students created their own number patterns to share with the class.

Kaboom Sports

We are thankful for the invite from St. John’s! Everyone had a fun afternoon.

Biology Day

On Friday, we came together for a day of exciting research focused on living things. Students worked in groups to explore various topics, including the life cycles of frogs and chickens, the fascinating world of plants and had some time to prepare for Costa's visit. In anticipation of his arrival, some students researched the famous Aussie gardener and prepared thoughtful questions to ask him.

In the second half of the day, students put their knowledge into action by building a frog pond. They worked hard to dig out the hole, getting their hands dirty in the process! Meanwhile, other groups spent time in the garden and others gave our indoor plants some love by repotting them and fertilising them!

Art Show

Students have been working tirelessly to prepare their pieces for the upcoming Art Show. One standout creation is Maysie's dollhouse, which she has crafted throughout the year, often adding to it in her spare time. The final result is a beautiful display of creativity, featuring a variety of handmade details.

Connor has also created a unique "Learning Zoo" where each zoo animal offers tips on how to be a great learner. It’s a fun and imaginative way to share important lessons through art!

Maison’s Focus Day

We celebrated our wonderful Maison this week.

Maison picked some lego making tasks as well as some outdoor games that focused on teamwork. We were also super impressed with his bead creations!

Costa Visit!

annnd…we also had an awesome visit from Costa on Friday. Students were really engaged and asked great questions. He was blown away with our school!

Have a beautiful week,

Gab
