Grow, Harvest, Prepare, Share
Over the past two weeks, our cooking and gardening program has been centered around two themes that have engaged our students.
In the kitchen, students delved into the art of making focaccia, transforming their creations into stunning edible artworks showcased at our recent school art show. Each student expressed their creativity by using diverse fresh produce to design intricate images such as whimsical faces, vibrant flowers, and charming ladybugs. This hands-on activity not only allowed students to explore their artistic talents but also provided them with the opportunity to practice and refine their knife skills. They learned the importance of precision, cutting vegetables and herbs carefully to bring their imaginative ideas to life.
In honour of Remembrance Day, all classes baked a rosemary cake, which rapidly became a crowd favourite. Students were pleasantly surprised by the delightful rosemary flavour incorporated into sweet recipes, which sparked an excellent discussion about how some produce can enhance sweet and savoury dishes. The experience enriched their culinary skills and deepened their appreciation for using fresh herbs in their cooking. These two weeks have been filled with creativity, learning, and a newfound love for cooking with fresh ingredients.
We sincerely thank everyone who contributed to and supported our bake stall at the school fair. Your generous donations of time, ingredients, and baked goods played a vital role in making the event successful. It was heartwarming to see so many people come together, sharing smiles and laughter while enjoying the freshly baked treats. We appreciate the enthusiasm of those who baked, volunteered, and helped set up. It was a wonderful opportunity to raise funds for our school and strengthen our community bonds. Thank you once again for your kindness and support. We look forward to seeing everyone at future events, where we can create more delightful memories together!
With only a couple of weeks remaining in the year, we would like to invite helpers to join our Kitchen Garden program to enhance the experience and learning outcomes.
In order to volunteer, you will need to hold a current Working With Children Check, and sign a code of conduct at the office.
Morning block classes run from 9am - 11am.
Middle block classes run from 11:40am - 1:40pm.

Have you ever wondered what part of a plant you are eating when you munch into Kale, Fennel or even beetroot? In garden classes this week we went on a wonderous discovery tour to find out where we find our kitchen ingredients.
Quiz Question - ¨Am I eating a leaf, stem, flower or root¨. Our students did a fantastic job of identifying Celery stalks as stem growing ,beetroot bulbs as root growing and Kale as leaf growing, we even recognised that the decoration on our chocolate & beetroot cake is part of the borage plant , the borage flower. Alot of times you can eat all parts of a plant, like fennel & broccoli.
It was a fantastic effort by our whole school community to come together and enjoy our school fair last Sunday.
Esther and her amazing helpers ran a Garden stall, selling plants that we planted up in garden classes as well as selliing donated plants from Bunnings. Students even had the chance to make their own themed gardens.
It was a great effort and a huge community day. Well done
We had our annual garden vistors this week. Two beautiful Blue tongue lizards, one we rescued out of a drain and the other out of the goat enclosure.
Both needed a little care and respite but were quickly released into the garden. Romeo who we rescued from a drain has appeared a couple of times to say ¨hello¨.
Happy Gardening
