Year 5/6 - Senior Unit

Numeracy

This week, we've explored the fascinating world of symmetry and tessellations, examining where we see these patterns in the real world. We learned about the shapes that work best for creating tessellations and what makes a regular polygon "regular." Students also had the opportunity to create their own tessellations, applying their knowledge. We looked at the intricate work of M.C. Escher, known for his mathematically precise and visually captivating designs.

Literacy

In Literacy, we've been diving into the work of David Attenborough, focusing on his remarkable documentaries like Life on Earth. We studied the unique stylistic and literary features of his writing, which we are now applying to our own documentary scripts. Students are crafting their own stories to share, inspired by Attenborough’s distinctive narrative style.

Inquiry

For our Inquiry project, each student has selected an animal to research, focusing on how these animals adapt to survive in extreme climates such as deserts, the Arctic, and more. Using the scientific research and literacy skills we've developed, students will create their own documentaries to showcase their findings.

Excursion

A big congratulations to the 5/6 unit for representing our school so well during our trip to the Melbourne Zoo. It was an informative and enjoyable day, where we learned a great deal about animal adaptations. Some of us were even fortunate enough to spot our chosen inquiry animals in person, gaining valuable firsthand experience.

Thank You

A heartfelt thank you to Britt, Louise, Ben, and Bec for joining us on the excursion and assisting throughout the day. We truly appreciate your support and couldn't have done it without you!
