Branch Out Study Tour in Japan

Konnichiwa Kalinda minnasan!

Hello to everyone at Kalinda from Japan! I have the great fortune to be spending two weeks in Japan with our students. We have 15 Kalinda students alongside 10 students from Warranwood.

Last week our students stayed with their host families and attended our sister school in Mito, Lilyvale Elementary School. The students did a great job in learning Japanese, participating in daily school life and teaching classes about Australia.

They had so much fun and it was a very emotional goodbye from students, staff and especially host families after we left the school yesterday. This week we are traveling around Japan. Highlights will include visiting famous temples, Team Labs, Disneyland and Universal Studios Japan. Our students are representing our school and Australia so beautifully.

Thank you so much to White sensei and Hiromi sensei for all of their hard work on the trip. And a huge thank you to our amazing sister school Lilyvale Elementary School.

We look forward to hosting them next year when they visit us, and we hope we have lots of families (whatever year level your student is in) who can welcome a student into your homes for a few days.

Somers Camp 2025

Evey second year we have the opportunity to send approximately 10-20 students from Year 5 and Year 6 to Somers Camp. Somers Camp is a 9 day camp on the Mornington Peninsula that is owned and operated by DET. Students have the opportunity to attend the camp alongside other local schools.

The camp is a great opportunity to get to know other students, build resilience and independence and have a great time.

Next year the camp for Maroondah and Yarra Valley schools will be from the 6th May to the 14th May. We always aim to get as many spots as possible allocated for our school but if we have more interest than availability we will have a selection process or lottery system (will provide more information about that at a later date). The cost of the camp is $350.

For current Year 4 and Year 5 families please keep an eye out for further communication that will come out via COMPASS.

We are kind. We are resilient. We are respectful.
