Apart from the physical skills gained by participating in sport, there are many other life skills that being involved in sports teach – sportsmanship, teamwork, resilience, persistence, kindness and inclusivity while building self-esteem and confidence.

2024 has been a fantastic year for sport at EHPS! Congratulations to everyone for pursuing their personal best in many different sports. Some of the highlights are mentioned above with individual and team events at District, Division and Region level.

There were three outstanding achievements at State Diving, Tennis and Hockey, School Sport Victoria championships. We acknowledged Lara, Max and Ryan’s amazing efforts, presenting them with a champion flag and a frame which will be hung in the Stadium foyer, in their honour.

Rotary Sportsmanship Award

Congratulations to Ryan W who was nominated for the Rotary Sportsmanship Award. He was presented with an engraved medal at a special ceremony on Monday night at Monash Community Centre.

The paragraphs below were read to the audience while Ryan was receiving his medal:

Ryan has proudly and confidently represented Essex Heights Primary School throughout 2024. He displayed talent in different sports such as soccer, hockey, football and tennis. A highlight was his selection in the 12U Victorian Hockey team, he played Nationals in Cairns.

Ryan also represented the Monash District at Monash Waverley Division events for cross country and athletics, where he competed in the long and triple jumps. He was an ideal role model for younger students and his teammates, providing encouragement, showing great persistence and resilience, both on and off the playing field.

Junior House Sports

All students in Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 were involved in six events in the morning on Thursday 5 December on Essex Heights Reserve. They trained for these activities in P.E. lessons, so they were confident when participating on the day. Activities included hurdles, baton, tunnel ball and soccer relays plus a throwing activity and sprint races.

Thank you to the Year 6 House Captains who did an amazing job running the events and helping the teachers with scoring. Also, thanks to the staff for their support during the sports event.

It was lovely to see so many families spectating and cheering on the children.

The children had lots of fun and some of their comments are below.

Congratulations to all students who gained points for their house.

A big thanks to the House Captains for running the activities.

Thanks,

Monique Hocking & Cassie Kemp

1EP reflections:

My favourite part of the Junior House Sports was sprints because I am very good at running, and I am very fast.

My favourite part of the sports was the icy pole because it was delicious and cold.

My favourite part of the sports was soccer because I shot five goals.
