Grade 3/4 News

Here’s a quick look at what’s been happening in 3/4 this week:

Morphology: Building Words with -ness

In our morphology lessons, we’ve been working on the suffix -ness, which turns words into abstract nouns (like kindness, happiness, and sadness). We also had a great consolidation week, revisiting our previous prefixes and suffixes to make sure we really understand them and can use them in our writing. It's been a fun, wordy week!

SEL – Celebrating World Kindness Day

We marked World Kindness Day by sharing compliments with classmates we don’t usually talk to. It was a wonderful experience, and the kindness didn’t stop there – we also created some beautiful artwork to go along with our positive messages. It was a great way to brighten everyone’s day and strengthen our class community.

Maths – Exploring Fractions

In maths, we’ve returned to the world of fractions. We’ve been learning how to identify equivalent fractions, convert them into decimals, and place them on a number line. There’s been a lot of fun hands-on activities to help us really understand how fractions work!

Literature – The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore

In literature, we’ve been reading the magical story The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. The book follows Morris, a young writer who finds himself in a mysterious library after a storm destroys his city. The library is home to magical books that come to life! The class has loved diving into this imaginative world.

Colour Run Fundraiser

What an amazing day the Colour Run was! The students had a blast running, dancing, and getting covered in bright, colourful powder. We also raised lots of money for our school community, and some lucky students even got to slime Ms. Schache! It’s an event we’ll all remember for a long time.

Library – Borrowing Books

Our students are loving their weekly trips to the library. Each child can borrow two books per week – just remember to send in a satchel so they can bring their books home! Both 3/4 classes visit the library on Wednesdays.

Battle of the Books – Congratulations 3/4A!

A huge congratulations to 3/4A, who recently won the Wyndham Library’s Battle of the Books competition! The class completed 23 activities, wrote over 7800 words combined, created 26 fantastic book posters, answered 28 questions about books, and read over 100 minutes each week. To celebrate, they enjoyed delicious donuts and were given a cute toad toy as a trophy. Well done, 3/4A!

Camp Reminder

Just a quick reminder that payment and consent for camp are due by Tuesday, 19th November. The children will have an amazing time at Lady Northcote Camp with exciting activities like archery, canoeing, hut building, and the giant swing. If you haven’t already, please head to Compass to complete the necessary forms.

Thank you for your continued support. We’re looking forward to another great week ahead!

Warm regards,The 3/4 Team
