Foundation News

Can you believe we are already more than halfway through Term 4! It has been wonderful to watch all students grow this term and we look forward to seeing what they can achieve in the coming weeks.
Special Events
It has been a very busy start to the term! Students have enjoyed participating in our Spectacular Colour Fun Run. Thanks to all of your generosity and hard work we were able to raise $7297.00. This money is going to go towards school resources to improve the learning of all of our students, we cannot thank you enough!
Students were also very lucky to receive a visit from the Victorian Police in week 5, to learn all about safety in the community, including while online. Did you know that it is illegal for children under 16 to ride on an e-bike or e-scooter? Students also learnt that it is the law to wear a helmet when riding a scooter or bicycle and in order to sit in the front seat of the car you must be over 145cm tall!
English
In English, we have begun to learn about the ‘complex code’. Students have learnt the sounds /ay/, /ee/, /igh/, /oa/, /oo/, and /or/.
In Story champs, we are continuing to learn how to write our own stories! We have been retelling a familiar story and using this as a guide to write our own stories. Our stories include, character/s, a problem, a feeling, a solution to the problem and an ending.
A reminder this term our school library has opened and students have enjoyed visiting the library to browse and borrow books.
*Students are able to borrow if they have their reading satchel with them. They will hold onto the books for a week and they will need to be returned before borrowing a new one, below is a reminder of each class's library day.

Literature and Core Knowledge
Over the past couple of weeks Foundation classes have explored the picture story book, ‘The Speedy Sloth’ by Rebecca Young, where we learnt all about inside and outside character traits. We have also begun our Knowledge Unit ‘Let’s Explore Our World’, where we will learn about each continent of the world and explore some countries from each continent.
Maths
In week 4, Foundation students learnt about Data, collecting, sorting and comparing data in response to given investigative questions with two outcomes (eg. yes/no).
During week 5, students enjoyed learning about Australian coins and participating in simple money transactions while playing ‘shops’.
This week students have revised counting and place value skills with numbers up to 20.
