Art News

In Visual Arts students learn about visual arts practices, including the fields of art and craft. They experience and explore visual artworks created by artists and build an understanding of the significance and impact of visual arts.

FOUNDATION

Students in foundation have been learning about the artist Vincent Van Gogh. They have viewed some of his most famous artworks and created their own version of sunflowers by using their fingers to spread the paint.

Students have also begun learning about modelling with clay. They have used clay to practise rolling a ball, rolling a coil, making a spiral, breaking it into pieces and joining the clay back together. Students then created some real texture using the patterns on the soles of their shoes to stamp the clay. They will create some colourful pendants with these next week.

They have looked at how clay has been used in the past, viewed how clay is used to make pottery using a potter’s wheel and learned some new techniques. The students have created some adorable cats and dogs by learning new skills and making sure they scratch and attach when joining pieces of clay together.
