P & C News

The last GIHS P&C meeting of 2024 was held last Tuesday. It was an informative and constructive meeting with the Director – Chris Bice and Relieving Principal Michelle Nicholson in attendance.

The meetings discussions were strengthened by having also in attendance Beth Arandale, Pheobe Vimpany and Maggie Duddy providing student voice representing the Student Representative Council (SRC).

Three Water Fountains that have facilities for refilling water bottles and bubblers have arrived at the school last week. The P&C with assistance from the White Rock Community Fund, made the purchase of these three stations. The installation will take place over the Christmas holidays, and we look forward to students having access to water and being able to refill their drink bottles in the New Year AND sharing the photos with you. The SRC ran a competition for the artwork earlier this year, the water stations are going to look amazing in our school.

In the last half of the year the P&C have been able to support several students / groups representing GIHS and assisted with attaining other funding from community groups. This support has gone towards the Buckley Shield team, Year 7/8 Boys and Girls Touch team, Dance Spectacular Group, U15 Netball team, Kayden Elliott ( in winning GOLD at Nationals in Cross Country), 30 Junior Touch referees completing their course, The Year 12 of 2025 Jersey’s and Year 10 students on their year group excursion. Along with the community support of Glen Innes Old Boys, the Rotary Club, Lions, Leo Club, Lioness Club and Glen Innes District Services Club.

Last night GIHS hosted the Community Engagement/ Consultation evening. The P&C assisted in supporting the school by providing a complementary BBQ to attendees – cooked up by our local Rotary group.  The evening was a great success and thank you to Chris, Michelle, The Executive, all the GIHS teachers and staff, parents, careers, SRC students, Margot Davis and Carol Sparks, and many other communities engaged people in attendance. The P&C Federation’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW Department of Education is all about what this evening was about – “ together in partnership.

The first meeting of 2025 will begin with the formalities of the AGM followed by a General Meeting on Tuesday 4 March at 6pm. We look forward to welcoming all parents, careers and community to these meetings and working in partnership with GIHS.
