Boccia Representative Tournament

DAy 1 - The day began with receiving our new Boccia shirts and caps, followed by a full day of practice, learning new skills, and refining tactics. We also held a parent vs. children competition—though, of course, the kids emerged victorious! After assessing everyone's skills, the participants were divided into teams. Tyler’s concentration and focus were remarkable throughout the day. At the end, we played two competitive rounds. While our team played well, we were narrowly beaten.

Day 2 - Tyler’s team came ready to take on the challenge. The day was packed with five rounds of Boccia, and while we came close in several games, we onlmanaged to win one round. The improvement and focus from every team member was truly outstanding. Tyler even had a fun game with Papa Pete in between rounds. Pete, with his experience in bowls, may have had a slight edge, but it was the camaraderie, the new friendships made, and the opportunity to reconnect with teammates from last year that made the event truly special. The kindness and support from everyone was the real victory of the day. We all had such a fantastic time.

A huge thank you to Boorowa Central School, Boorowa CWA, Boorowa Rotary, Boorowa Lions Club, and Boorowa Car Club for making this event possible. Special thanks to Tyler's mother, Lisa, whose incredible driving skills made navigating Sydney’s peak-hour traffic feel like a breeze.

And finally, a massive congratulations to Tyler Dennett for his unwavering dedication, determination, enthusiasm, and fantastic sense of humour. Tyler, you are a true champion.

Auslan Year 7

Year 7 students recently brought their Auslan skills to life by creating interactive digital books designed for Kindergarten-aged children. Each digital book features embedded videos of students signing words in Auslan and audio recordings of them reading the story aloud, creating a bilingual, multi-sensory learning experience for young readers. On Thursday, the Year 7s visited the Kindergarten class for a practice run, where the younger students eagerly engaged with the stories, watching and signing along.

This creative project not only strengthened the Year 7 students’ understanding of Auslan but also gave them practical experience in storytelling and technology use. Ms Miller and Ms Brougham praised the students for using their language skills to make learning fun and accessible for the Kindergarten class, describing the collaboration as a rewarding experience for both groups.

Stage 5 Food Technology

Stage 5 Food Technology students recently took on the role of food designers, tasked with creating a unique mocktail for a fictional new restaurant. As part of their product development assessment, they are experimenting with flavours, garnishes, and presentation to craft appealing signature drinks. Alongside recipe creation, students are researching marketing strategies, exploring target audiences, and developing promotional materials to make their mocktails stand out. This hands-on project allows students to gain practical culinary skills while learning the essentials of product development and marketing in the food and beverage industry.

Buttercup Cafe

Boorowa Central School has recently opened The Buttercup Cafe, a new student-run cafe that welcomes teachers and students on Monday and Tuesday mornings for coffee (teachers only), hot chocolate and chai. Operated by the Student Representative Council (SRC), the cafe serves as a fundraising initiative, with proceeds helping to reduce the costs of future excursions for students. Beyond fundraising, The Buttercup Cafe acts as a hands-on training ground for students interested in hospitality, giving them valuable real-world experience in food service, customer interaction, and operations management. The cafe has quickly become a vibrant addition to the school, empowering students with practical skills and supporting educational opportunities for all.
