Sustainability in Action

GRANT PROJECT THANKS

We are very grateful to Woolworths Junior Landcare and Keep Australia Beautiful for the generous grants they provided our school with to support our school projects this year. With these generous grants (over $2000, we were able to support 2 new initiatives; our Fruits for the Future Project (using the Woolworths Grant) and our New Market Garden (using our Keep Australia Beautiful Grant). During Term 3, our students helped to plant around 40 new fruit trees in our school grounds, along with many strawberry plants along with raspberry, blackberry and other canes.

This term we have built 8 new garden beds which all our students helped to fill with soil, manure and mulch. Last week students helped to plant lettuce, beans, peas, potatoes, zucchini and red and green cabbage.

We are very grateful for all the assistance we received from students, staff and our regular grandparent volunteer, Stan Andrewartha, who has been an amazing help dedicating many hours and days to assist.

SCHOOL WATERING PROGRAM

With warmer weather coming and lots of extra plants to water we have started a school watering roster with many students and staff assisting with watering during our school day. It is especially wonderful to see our students watering fruit trees and gardens with watering cans. We are also grateful for the assistance of our After School Care staff and students. Thank you all.

PARENT/GRANDPARENT VOLUNTEER HELPERS NEEDED

We are always doing some outdoor gardening activities each Thursday at our school. If you can spare a couple of hours to come in weekly, fortnightly, monthly we could sure use your help. We also have a new cooking program happening with the students, and volunteers are needed for that program as well.

If you can assist contact me (Luch) via my email: luch.brighella@catholic.tas.edu.au  or contact the school office on 6247 7104. Please ensure you have a current Working with Vulnerable People Card.
