Surf School

Students in Stage 2 and 3 took part in a Surf School program at either Long Reef or Collaroy Beach.

Throughout the program, they learned about the dangers associated with the ocean, including how to identify rips, sandbanks, and the safest swimming areas to ensure their safety in the water. Additionally, they had the chance to body surf and try bodyboarding, with all activities customised to suit their individual abilities.

According to reports, our staff appreciated this exceptional opportunity to engage with their students, witnessing them conquer their fears and anxieties, especially since many had limited experience in such water environments. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience, not only because of the stunning location but also due to the valuable surf safety knowledge and awareness they acquired. I hope this knowledge remains with them, empowering them to stay safe in our coastal waters in the future.

Coonamble Visit

We were delighted to welcome students from Coonamble Public School to Chatswood Public School as part of the Country City Alliance program on 3 December. The day was filled with engaging activities that highlighted the talents and creativity of our students.

The visit began with a vibrant assembly where our students showcased their Dragon Dance performance, captivating everyone with their energy and skill. A highlight of the day was when students and teachers alike were given the opportunity to participate in the Dragon Dance, learning how to act and move while wearing the costume. This hands-on experience fostered a sense of teamwork and excitement among everyone involved. Our talented Stage 1 dance group also took the stage, delighting the audience with their enthusiastic performance. Additionally, our Strings ensemble delivered a beautiful musical performance, demonstrating the hard work and dedication of our musicians.

Following the welcome assembly and showcase, the students were invited to engage with our Sports in Schools Australia program. They had a fantastic time playing a series of games that involved throwing, catching, and teamwork, promoting physical activity and collaboration.

The visiting students also participated in a Mandarin lesson, where they learned to name and write different parts of Australia in Mandarin. They had a great time engaging with their peers, learning, and translating within their groups.

Throughout the day, Chatswood and Coonamble students participated in collaborative activities designed to foster friendships and build understanding between our communities.

Thank you to everyone who made this visit a success, and we look forward to more opportunities to connect with our fellow students from Coonamble Public School!

Student Achievements

Two of our CPS students, Lilian S. and Jason X., have recently returned from Qatar, where they competed in the World Mathematics Teams Championship (WMTC) 2024, hosted by the Qatar Foundation. This year's competition was themed "Al Jabr: Completion," honouring the legacy of Al-Khwarizmi, the Father of Algebra.

We are proud to announce that Lilian achieved a remarkable Gold Award for the Individual Round at the Junior Level, highlighting her outstanding performance. Additionally, Lilian also participated in a team competition where her and her teammates were recognised as a Top 30% Junior Level Team, further demonstrating her talent and teamwork.

Jason won a Silver Award for the Individual Round at the Junior Level, showcasing his exceptional mathematical skills.

Congratulations to Lilian and Jason for their incredible achievements! We are proud to have such talented students representing CPS on an international stage.

Thank You

We would like to say a huge thank you to the parents and caregivers who volunteered their time to contact the pod library books over the past two Thursdays. It has made a big difference! We still have hundreds of books left to contact. We will be holding one more contacting workshop next Thursday from 1pm in the Library. We welcome any parents/caregivers to come and will be sending out more information via the class parent.

With gratitude,

Mrs Bullen on behalf of the Prefects
