From the Year 1 Classroom
Hello Grade 1 families,
Week 9, we can’t believe it! We are really at the pointy end of the year with lots happening.
In Literacy, we have been very busy working in the publishing phase of the writing process, completing our narratives and procedures that we have been busy writing this term. The children continue to amaze us with their creativity and we have had some laughs on some of the procedures they have come up with. Clever little kids! This week, as we begin to wrap up the year, we are focusing on their handwriting and reviewing some different questions that we have posed in our reading sessions to deepen their comprehension.
In Maths, we have continued revising concepts that we have taught this year. We have been spending some extra time on some of the trickier learnings that we have covered, along with providing challenges for our children. The children have really enjoyed the games we have played to consolidate this learning.
In Religion, we are loving the unit of ‘The First Christmas’. We have been focusing on thoughtful gifts and being grateful at this time of year.
In Inquiry, the children have been invested in learning about the weather and they are currently researching a weather pattern of their choice. The children will then present their weather pattern in a poster form.
Other things to note:
- Excursion to Bunnings: How lucky we were to venture off to Bunnings to complement our learning about procedures. Tim was amazing with the children and we are very appreciative to Bunnings for this wonderful experience. The kids loved it!
- Christmas Concert: We are looking forward to our concert on Friday the 6th of December from 6pm- 7pm (please arrive at 5.30) at the MPB. This week we will be busy practising for our moment to shine with the wonderful staff from ASPA (Australian School of Performing Arts).
- Transition for 2025 is next Tuesday 10th of December, which is always exciting.
- Tunzafun End of Year Celebration on the 16th of December. We can’t wait to celebrate the year with our beautiful kids.
- End of year Mass at 9.30am in the MPB: The Mass is a lovely way to celebrate the 2024 year as a whole school community.
