Principal's Message to the School Community

Dear KPS Families,

2025 Transition Day

On Tuesday, 10th December, our students will transition into their new 2025 studios, where they will spend time with their new teacher and classmates. This marks the beginning of an exciting journey as they prepare for the upcoming year. The formation of the 2025 class groupings has been a thoughtful and intentional process, carefully engineered by our dedicated teaching staff in collaboration with the wellbeing team. The goal was to ensure that each class is balanced, offering an equitable mixture of learners that supports both academic and social development.

Over the course of more than three weeks, the team meticulously considered a variety of factors, including learning styles, social dynamics, academic strengths, and individual needs. Additionally, we took into account the 41 class placement requests that we received from families, which were thoughtfully reviewed to align with the overall objectives of creating harmonious and productive learning environments.

Given the complexities of this process, which involved significant deliberation and careful planning, we regret to inform you that no changes can be made to the 2025 class lists at this stage. We understand that class placements can sometimes be a source of concern, but we are confident that the final groupings reflect the best possible arrangement for the students' growth and success. The thoughtful consideration behind each decision ensures that the mixture of learners and selected staff will create a supportive, nurturing, and academically stimulating year for all involved.

We look forward to seeing the positive outcomes of these carefully crafted groupings and are excited for the opportunities that lie ahead for our 2025 class.

Kyneton Primary School – School Captains Selection Procedure

The School Captains at Kyneton Primary School hold the most important student leadership roles. Six positions are available to Year 5 students at the end of the school year. The selection process begins with Year 5 students nominating themselves for the role of School Captain.

School Values:

•    Respect – Caring for yourself, others, property, and the environment.

•    Persistence – Continuing to try, even when something is difficult.

•    Pride – Feeling happy and proud when you or others do something good or challenging for others.

•    Responsibility – Taking responsibility for our belongings, actions, and ourselves.

•    Excellence – Always striving to do your best.

•    Care – Showing concern for others.

Selection Process:

1.    Nomination & Speech Preparation:

Year 5 students nominate themselves for the role of School Captain. As part of the process, nominees must prepare and deliver a speech outlining how they have demonstrated the school values during their time at KPS. This speech is delivered to Year 5 students and teachers, with the Principal and Assistant Principal present. Nominees may also specify which school value they would like to represent.

2.    Initial Voting & Shortlisting:

After the speeches, Year 5 students cast their votes, which are collated. The Principal and Assistant Principal then select a shortlist of candidates, based on the votes and their leadership potential. This step will take place on the 5th of December.

3.    Whole School Assembly:

Shortlisted candidates present their speeches at a whole school assembly. During this assembly, teaching staff vote for their top six candidates, linking each candidate to one of the school values using the KPS Leadership Criteria. The Leadership Team tallies the votes and determines the successful candidates for each value. This will occur on the 9th of December.

4.    Final Selection:

The selection of the top six candidates is not based on gender. The successful candidates must have signed consent for their image to be published on the internet and in print or electronic media. The Principal will contact the six successful candidates on the Monday before the End of Year Awards Assembly.

5.    Announcement:

The new School Captains will be announced at the final school Awards Assembly for the year. The successful candidates will hold the position for the upcoming school year.
