Year 3

Meet our wonderful teachers...

Year 3A: Ciona Cox (Team Leader)

Hello wonderful SMPS community,

My name is Miss Ciona and I will be teaching 3A in 2024. This will be my 9th year in teaching and my third as Team Leader of Year 3. I am really looking forward to getting know all the students and their families. There are so many exciting moments to come in Year 3!

I grew up in Scotland with my mum, dad and two older brothers. As a child I spent most of my time outdoors exploring the Scottish countryside and all the picture-perfect landscapes it has to offer. Think castles, snow covered mountains and hoping to catch a glimpse of the Loch Ness Monster. I began my teaching career in Scotland before moving to Melbourne in 2020. This will be my fifth year at South Melbourne Primary School.

Outside of school you can often find me painting, exploring the outdoors or sampling all the amazing food Melbourne has to offer. I have a beautiful Australian Shepherd dog called Juniper and I will happily show you a picture of her if you ask, I have many.

I am really looking forward to another fantastic year at SMPS.

Year 3B: Shannon Coventry

Hello SMPS students and families!

I'm Miss Shannon, and I'm thrilled to be teaching 3B in 2024! In 2023, I had the privilege of teaching Year 5/6's for one semester, and now I'm excited to embark on my first full year as a teacher. Many of you may remember me from my role as an inclusion aide at SMPS during 2021/2022, and I couldn't be happier to return to this wonderful community.

I grew up on Kangaroo Island so my childhood was spent camping, quad biking, playing with lots of farm animals and exploring the beautiful beaches! When we moved back to Melbourne, I spent my high school years in the leafy Warrandyte and often head back out there on the weekends to catch up with friends and family.

Outside of school, you could often find me exploring new restaurants and cafes in Richmond or walking around the tan. At the moment, my fiancé Josh and I are busy planning our wedding which is coming up in April!

I am really looking forward to being back at SMPS and can’t wait to see some familiar faces and meet some new!

Year 3C: Shannon Sim

Hello SMPS students and families!

My name is Miss Shannon and I will be teaching Grade 3C in 2024. This will be my fifth year teaching, and my second year at SMPS. I can’t wait to get to know each student and their families!

I grew up on a dairy farm in New Zealand with my Mum, Dad and two younger sisters. I spent most of my childhood surrounded by nature, climbing trees, riding motorbikes and milking cows. In July 2022, my fiancé Finn and I made the leap to Melbourne, and since then, every moment has been an adventure. We can say with ease that we have found home!

Outside of school you can find me immersed in sports, adventuring and hiking in the outdoors, reading a good book or lapping up cuddles with my two gorgeous kittens Yuki and Tui.

I hope you have had a great holiday and I look forward to being back at SMPS.
