Leadership News

Principal's Piece
I am of the opinion that Feedback is a gift. I also believe that receiving feedback, whether it be good or bad can be one of the hardest things to do. It is often difficult to stand there, smile and accept feedback, especially when it isn’t right from your perspective. Equally, we can struggle to fully accept positive feedback.
Reflecting on this topic, Chris Hendricks suggests that in our modern world, giving someone feedback is a huge risk because no one wants to be corrected despite every one of us needing it. He goes on to suggest that it’s best to receive feedback humbly rather than defensively, so that we can grow. Chris reminds us that “God has placed people around us with the ability to see things in our blind spots.”
Over the past few weeks, we have been collecting feedback from the Bayside community. The objective of the annual survey is to provide the College leadership with feedback that will enable them to make improvements around the College. This year over we received responses from 207 parents and carers. To those 207 people I would like to say thank you! Thank you for taking the time to share with us your experiences at the College and providing your suggestions on how we can grow and improve.
Over the coming weeks, I (as will the senior leaders) will read every response, from every parent and seek to discern how to best shape our practices to serve students, families and the Lord well as we set up for 2024 and beyond. As we do this, remember that it takes time for change to happen. Often as parents, we hope that our feedback will have an instant effect. While in some cases this is true, in others, change is a slow and gradual process. Regardless of the speed, you can be confident we are striving to use the feedback you have provided to learn and grow this amazing College.
Blessings,
Mr Andrew Manning
Principal
2024 Secondary Student Leadership
The Secondary students who applied for a 2024 Student Leadership role have gone through a rigorous process, which involved completing an application form, and then being selected out of the applicants in their year level to attend an interview with a panel which included teachers from the Secondary leadership team. One-on-one feedback was then provided to each applicant with the aim to help them grow by going through this experience. We want to congratulate each student who applied for leadership and those who were interviewed.

The 2024 School Captain and School Vice-Captain positions will be announced at next week’s Secondary Presentation night.
Secondhand Edrolo Textbooks (VCE)
For VCE courses that use Edrolo textbooks, the
Campion booklists have the Edrolo textbook and digital access listed in a bundle for $115.50. Other courses that don't use the Edrolo physical text, but still use the digital supplementary material have online access for $31.50.
Many families have purchased or acquired secondhand Edrolo texts, but the booklist does not provide an avenue to only purchase the digital access component. To address this, an adjustment will be applied in fees in 2024 to cover the digital access. The College has already provided the Edrolo platform for all VCE students during the Headstart program to ensure they can access the required online content. Please note that this applies ONLY to Edrolo Textbooks not purchased through the booklist. We apologise for any inconvenience.
Volunteer Induction
As part of our committment to child safety, all volunteers are required to have current working with children checks and to undergo a volunteer induction course annually. If you currently volunteer or intend to join the team in 2024 we request that you complete the Volunteer Induction Course in preparation for the upcoming year. Please allow 20-30 minutes for the induction.
Staffing Update
Mrs Katie Newton will be leaving the College at the end of the year to spend more time with family in the Northern Territory. We pray God's richest blessings as she heads to the warmer climate. We also say farewell to Mr Joel Kong at the end of the year as he seeks God's leading upon his new direction.
Exchange Students in 2024
Bayside is excited once again to host a group of four students who are 16-years-old from Kinjo High School who will be attending in Term One next year. These students bring much excitement, joy, and culture to the Bayside community. We are looking for 4 or more families who would like to host an exchange student from Japan.
- Families can host a student for all or part of the term.
- No need to cook special food.
- The student can share a bedroom (same gender)
- Host families are paid a small stipend of $50 per night to help with costs
- Hosting start date Monday 30 January
- Hosting end date Tuesday 26 March (Group Co-ordinator will organise airport transfers)
This is a wonderful opportunity for families to enjoy learning about another culture, make new friends and share God's love with these young people. Hosting is open to families from all Year levels.

My Christian School Website
Bayside Christian College values the genuine faith of its staff. However, the Australian Law Reform Commission has released a consultation paper which would prevent schools like ours from choosing staff for their active lived faith. My Christian Schools website has been launched in association with the Australian Association of Christian Schools because it's time they heard from some actual parents—like you!
If you value the contribution of Christian staff and teachers, this is your opportunity to have your voice heard. Please visit MyChristianSchool.au and send a message to your MP about the difference Christian teachers and staff make in our school.
Payment Arrangement Forms
This is a friendly reminder to please complete the Payment Arrangement Form for 2024 sent out to all families last month.
Every family must complete the form, even if you intend to pay your 2024 fees the same way as this year. Your answers will be used to generate individual Family Fee Statements, including applicable tuition fees and with nominated payment discounts applied. These will subsequently be emailed to families.
Thank you if you have already completed the form and submitted your intentions. Should you have any questions, please direct them to finance@baysidecc.vic.edu.au
2024 Fee Statements will be emailed to parents later this week. Friday 15 December is the first instalment date for all payment options, including paying for the full year in advance.
Notice of Withdrawal
Planning is well underway for 2024 - subject choices, staffing, timetables, book lists, ordering of resources, etc. If there is a possibility you may withdraw your child/ren from the College at the end of this year please provide the mandatory full term’s notice as soon as possible.
Notice of Withdrawal should be addressed to the Principal and emailed to College Registrar, Cindy Reed (registrar@baysidecc.vic.edu.au)

Please note, if your plans change, the notice can be retracted if the position is still available.
Community Prayer Plan
In the pursuit of activating the power of prayer over the College, the Bayside Prayer Group has developed a Community Prayer Plan which provides 10 ways you can pray for our school.
The hope of this plan is to empower and enable us, as a community, to be praying with a pattern and persistence across Term 4.
Please join us as we pray for the College, students and staff over the coming months.
