Year 8
Accelerated Science Class
During a recent assessment, the Year 8 Accelerated Science students undertook the challenge of constructing Rube Goldberg machines in small groups of three, showcasing their creativity and scientific expertise. The impressive ingenuity was evident in each machine, incorporating a minimum of 8 intricate steps and utilising at least 4 different simple machines.
The construction and testing phases involved a substantial amount of trial and error. Despite numerous false starts, the students tenaciously persisted until they successfully got their machines to work. This hands-on project not only highlighted their problem-solving skills but also emphasised the value of resilience and determination in overcoming challenges.
Hats off to the students for their innovative approach and commitment to mastering the complexities of physics through the world of Rube Goldberg machines!
Year 9
Peer Mentoring
Last week, our Year 9 and Year 6 students had their first peer mentoring session. This program will run on Orientation Day and Transition Day this year with both our current and incoming students. It will then continue next year when the students are in Year 10 and Year 7 to help with the transition and build vertical relationships within the School.
Science
On Thursday last week, our Year 9 Science students built bouncy balls in preparation for an investigation into energy conversions.
On Monday, the Year 9 Science students explored simple electrical circuits, including series and parallel circuits and learning to use ammeters and voltmeters.
Cupcake Baking and Decorating Food Tech Assessment
The Year 9 students were assigned the task of creating their very own unique cupcake decoration as part of their Food Technology Assessment Task 2 for this semester. The students were asked to research decoration themes that best resonated with themselves but also that were achievable in the time frame given. All the students developed a work plan to create their unique cupcakes as part of the design process. The final results displayed varying themes that all the students involved should be very proud of.
Year 10
Work Experience
Over the past fortnight, our Year 10 students embarked on exciting adventures and invaluable experiences as they undertook their Year 10 Work Experience. This annual program allowed our students to step into the professional world, gaining real-world insights and developing valuable skills that will undoubtedly shape their future careers.
A massive thank you to all the local businesses and institutions who hosted one of our students over the two week period, we greatly appreciate your support.
Year 11
English Extension 2 Interactive Masterclass
Want to write your own short story? Direct your own short film? Create a podcast investigating the topic of your choice? Well this year, six of our new Year 12 students (2024) are embarking on their own creative projects as part of the Stage 6 Extension English syllabus.
On Tuesday 21 November, our brave new Extension 2 English students participated in a day of interactive learning, unpacking the process of critical and creative composition. We are all looking forward to reading, watching and listening to each student’s Greater Work project at the end of 2024.
