LIBRARY NEWS

The library is not just full of books, but also opportunities."

Abbey 2016

THANK YOU AND FAREWELL

Thank you to my wonderful helpers this year who helped cover many books, shelved hundreds of books, and came to the book fair. St Nicholas School community sincerely thanks you for your time and commitment to our school library and our the library's vision:

Reading for learning.  Reading for living.  Reading for pleasure.

Thank you also to the dedicated Library Leaders. You have shelved and returned, helped with Book Week, Book Fair, various displays, Friday assembly with Sid and Serena, and offered your time to read with the K,1 2 students at lunchtimes. Whatever I have asked you have done with enthusiasm and a smile, even if it meant cutting up countless overdue notices. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Farewell to the students who are the last of their families and are leaving us this year. I wish you all the best as you continue on to high school, keep reading and make your school librarian your best friend. To families and students moving away, thank you for your friendship. To all, thank you for your contribution to the fibre of our school.

2023 Re-cap

Last week I asked the kindergarten students what they enjoyed most about their school Library.

Here are the top responses: *being allowed to borrow almost any book in the library

                                                       *using the ipads

                                                       *drawing and colouring in

*dressing up for book week; and

*listening to Mrs McGuirk read to us.

Thankyou kindergarten, this is a great start to your primary schooling.

SUMMER READING

Parents the summer reading slump is a real thing. Allocate some time each day for your children and yourself to read. They will certainly reap the rewards when they start back at school as their brains will have been kept active and neuron's growing with each and every new word that is read.

Does your child need a challenge to entice them to read? Check out the Town Library Summer Reading Challenge: see link below

TOWN LIBRARY HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES

CHEEKY LIBRARY ELVES

HOLIDAYS ARE HERE

 What to buy the children?

Here is a little poster just to bring it all into perspective.

CHOICE = Motivation

"The strongest positive impact on reading engagement and learning gains come from student self-selection of reading materials. When reading materials are selected for students the links to engagement and learning gain decline significantly."

How Reading Motivation and Engagement Enable Reading Achievement: Policy Implications, Ana Taboada Barber and Susan Lutz Klauda

When students visit the library a huge emphasis is placed on the

premise that they have

 CHOICE

in what they can read and borrow.

CLASS LIBRARY TIMETABLE - 2024

MONDAY:  Kindergarten, Yr 4   TUESDAY:  Yr 2, Yr 5   WEDNESDAY: Yr 3

THURSDAY: Yr 1, Yr 6

LIBRARY BAGS -  ALL students require a bag.

Now is the time to wash those library bags and keep them in a safe place ready to bring out next year, OR perhaps your child needs a new one.

Regardless of which option ALL students need a library bag for 2024.

Please check your child's requirement list for 2024 - LIBRARY BAG is top of the list.

LIBRARY BAGS MATTER...  Not just some of the time but all of the time.

No food or drink on my books.

Food and drink are for the chooks.

Library bags keep ‘em clean.

Books are cool don’t treat ‘em mean.

Bring your bag every time.

Fill it up and get in line.

Have it scanned and scoot on out.

LIBRARY BAGS

We all shout.
