This week in Foundation…

In Literacy we have been linking our inquiry learning to our reading and writing, so this week has been all about kookaburras. We read ‘Kookaburras Love to Laugh’ and ‘Kookoo the Kookaburra’. Our learning focus was on retelling the story and students enjoyed using the ‘Here’s the Scoop’ template to help structure their retell.

In writing, we did lots of research about kookaburras as a class and students put together their own fact books.

We were very excited to welcome Lynette and Jackie the dog from the Responsible Pet Ownership Program last Tuesday. We wrote recounts about the experience and what we learnt.

In Numeracy students have been learning about subtraction and division. They have engaged in lots of fun, hands-on learning activities to explore these concepts.

In Inquiry students have been demonstrating wonderful creativity and use of their imagination as they have designed and created their own new species of animal. The craft supplies were out, and the room was a mess – but that’s how the best learning happens!

In the coming weeks, students will build a habitat for their creatures. If you have any cardboard boxes floating around the house, please bring them in!

We loved our Teddy Bear’s picnic with our buddies this week. It was so lovely to sit, chat, eat and play together and celebrate a wonderful year before we say our goodbyes.
