Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL)

At SFS, our school expectations are: Respect Responsibility and Kindness.

This week we have focused on Kindness in the Learning space: Encourage and support others.

The children have learnt the reasons why it is important to encourage and support others.

It helps to:

  • Build confidence
  • Encourage connection
  • Build friendship
  • Helps with learning
  • Helps us to learn about teamwork
  • Teaches us to take turns and be patient

The children have learnt some ways to do this:

Some examples of encouraging and supporting others are:

  • Positive feedback “I really like your work..”
  • Applauding peers
  • Helping my friend next to me if they have a question or they are unsure of what to do
  • Listen actively when others are speaking and do not interrupt
  • Giving compliments to others
  • Acknowledge others ideas and responses
  • Respond positively e.g. “Great job”

16 days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign, began on 25th November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. It calls for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.

The way we educate the children about prevention of Family Violence is to teach the Respectful Relationships curriculum.

Respectful Relationships is about embedding a culture of respect and equality across our entire community. It teaches our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence.

The Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships teaching and learning materials were developed by leading education experts, who tailored the materials to each year level from Foundation (Prep) to Year 12, ensuring all information is age-appropriate and grounded in relevant violence prevention evidence.

Further information about Respectful Relationships is available on the Department of Education and Training website: www.education.vic.gov.au/respectfulrelationships

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please contact 1800 respect for advice and information for support.
