Year 7 to Year 9

HASS Excursion

Last Wednesday, our Year 8 students visited the Constitutional Centre to learn more about Parliament and their role in Australian democracy. Students were able to meet their local member of Parliament - Mr Hugh Jones, and some students were fortunate enough to view a sitting session of Parliament.

Career Taster Program (Automotive Session)

Fourteen Year 9 students along with Mrs Thomas and Mr Johns went to Kwinana TAFE to spend a day in the Life of an Automotive Mechanic.

Students engaged in activities which involved a variety of engines being revved, experiments and information about how electricity is produced to sustain and assist engine performance, as well as hoisting vehicles and using the necessary tools of the trade to work on a tyre change.

To wrap up the day, students learned about the force of Car Airbags and the role they play in the safety of passengers by being able to set off 2 which open at 300km an hour.

This was the final Career Taster of the year and was by all reports one of the best.

The program will be in full swing again next year for the incoming Year 9s and I’m looking forward to being able to engage the Salvado students in real life learnings and work which are going to prepare them for their next step.

I would also like to congratulate the students in Year 9 who have been offered placements into TAFE Courses next year and will now combine their Salvado education along with TAFE and being in the adult education space in 2024.

Secondary School Update

At our final assembly for 2023 this morning, it was heartening to witness our Salvado Catholic College community coming together, celebrating the many opportunities afforded to our secondary students throughout the year. This student-driven event served as a positive reflection of the growth experienced by our young individuals amid the many highlights and challenges shared collectively.

This week, two standout events underscored the exceptional dedication and efforts of our staff for the betterment of our students. Mrs Knight's tireless work with our music and dance students culminated in a heartwarming performance night with many parents and caregivers in attendance. Similarly, Ms Burrows, alongside her dedicated team of teachers and Education Assistants, created a truly amazing Presentation Night. Our deep gratitude extends to all our staff, whose commitment ensures the holistic development of our students.

As a Catholic College guided by our motto of Peace, Justice and Compassion, our genuine care for students and families is reflected in the work we undertake. As some students embark on new journeys, we extend heartfelt wishes for their future endeavours and anticipate the possibility of reconnecting down the road. Expressing gratitude to the departing staff, Mr Di Sabato, Mrs Kelly Webb and Mr Thairon Jansen, we acknowledge their remarkable contributions and the warmth of their friendships during their time at SCC.

May our students enjoy a restful and peaceful Christmas holiday, remembering the importance of embodying a spirit of kindness and empathy, mirroring the teachings of Jesus. Looking ahead to the coming year, we eagerly anticipate positive changes, including the addition of 13 new teachers in the secondary school and a structural shift designed to benefit our students significantly on their educational journey.
