Volleyball

On the 19th of October our Year 8 Girls and Boys Volleyball Teams headed out to Cobblebank to compete against other schools. Both teams played extremely well with the Girl’s team winning 3/4 matches, and the Boys smashing through the competition winning all their matches, accelerating them into the final. The Boy’s final was very close and even though they put in an amazing effort, it wasn’t enough to win the match. Both teams should be commended on attending 6 weeks of training sessions, which saw each student’s skills improve tremendously.

Basketball

Belinda Healy and I had the honour of accompanying our Year 8 girls' basketball team to the Western Regional Finals at Altona Sports Centre, where they engaged in an exciting competition. As previously noted, the team showed exceptional skill and determination. Despite some of their players falling ill and not emerging victorious, their perseverance and enthusiasm made the experience truly worthwhile.

Once again, they demonstrated the values of sportsmanship and represented Gisborne with the utmost pride. Witnessing their conduct was genuinely inspiring.

I'd like to give special recognition to Georgia S, who took on the role of coaching the girls' team, and to Jack W, who provided invaluable assistance in scoring and coaching. Georgia's extraordinary commitment to the school community and beyond, was further illustrated when she selflessly volunteered to officiate a game in the absence of an umpire. Such outstanding actions deserve acknowledgment and evoke a deep sense of pride within the Gisborne community.

I would also like to express my gratitude to Belinda, who co-piloted while I drove a 12-seater bus filled with enthusiastic, spirited, and determined students.

Tuesday 24th October – Altona stadium.  Today myself and Anne-Maree Coundon headed to Coburg to play the Western Metro Region Year 7 Basketball finals. The boys had comfortable wins in the opening two pool games, against Footscray HS and Gilson College. In our last game against Belmont HS, the ball wasn’t falling our way in the first half, leaving us down 5. Despite the boys starting to find their rhythm during the second half, Belmont prevailed winning 7.  In the GF, Maribyrnong proved a class above defeating Belmont HS 54-13.
