 White Water Rafting Adventure

Our Year 12 Outdoor and Environmental Studies class had the privilege of joining Wodonga Senior Secondary College [WSSC] for an extraordinary White-Water Rafting Adventure. This action-packed two-day expedition led us deep into Victoria's mesmerising King Valley, where the untamed power and awe-inspiring beauty of the King River awaited.

Day 1: Ovens River, Bright

Our journey commenced with an early rendezvous with WSSC on the banks of the Ovens River. The day kicked off with a comprehensive safety briefing, meticulously delivered by our seasoned guides, Beth Powell and Luke Molineux. Their expertise was our assurance as they ensured our students were well-prepared for the thrilling adventure ahead.

The day's pinnacle was the navigation of the Bright canyon, a segment of the river characterised by its narrow, steep rocky banks, and overhanging trees. Here, our students encountered their first significant challenge, tackling grade 2 rapids, including the formidable Slot and Canyon.

After a full day of paddling and conquering the rapids, we gathered for a well-deserved celebratory dinner at the Buffalo Hotel in Myrtleford. The dish of choice? Chicken Parma's in various delectable variations, including Mexican, Hawaiian, Cesar, and Meat Lovers.

Following dinner, we headed to our campsite at Lake William Hovell, where we would rest under the starry night sky, lulled by the soothing sounds of the King River.

Day 2: King River Rapids

We began our second day by breaking camp early and savoring breakfast with the serene beauty of Lake William Hovell as our backdrop. The dark blue waters of the lake painted a stunning natural canvas, a moment of tranquillity before the day's adventure.

Our rafting journey commenced just below the dam spillway, immediately immersing us in the heart of the river's rapids. Continuous grade 2 rapids, crystal-clear blue-green pools, and frothy white foam provided a mesmerising natural spectacle and a test of our skills and courage. The river offered numerous opportunities for surfing and playful interactions with the rapids.

Despite the stability and forgiving nature of the sports rafts, the rapids presented formidable challenges, leaving only our guides dry.

After a spectacular day on the river, we said goodbye to our new friends and returned to Mount Beauty

I wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Beth Powell and Luke Molineux, for organising the camp. Their expertise and commitment to our safety and enjoyment made the adventure an unforgettable success.
