F/1/2 News
The F/1/2 students have settled in well to the new term. We have been reviewing our PBIS and discussing what it means to show Caring for Self, Caring for Others, Caring for Learning and Caring for Environment. This has linked in nicely with our new Religion unit ‘Our call to Mission’, where we have started learning about how we can show kindness and caring towards others.
In Maths we have started learning about time. The students are focusing on learning how to say the days of the week from various starting points both forwards and backwards. Some students are also developing this skill towards the months of the year. We have also begun looking at what it means to be half way past something and connecting this to our ability to read half past times.
In Subject Focus, we will be learning about ‘Our story’. The students have been introduced to the topic through the book ‘Paige Blanq’ which is about a piece of paper who shares about her life on a shelf and the things that she can do as a piece of paper. The students will spend the next few weeks focusing on who they are and things that make them unique, such as their name and family.
This week, we also had our Ollie Online session. The students learned about what to do if they feel unsafe online or see something that they should not have. They also revised our key characteristics of being online, which are being aware, clever, brave and kind.
We are aware
We are clever
We are brave
We are kind
Coming up on Wednesday 8th November, the students will be participating in a Letterland Dress Up Day to mark the completion of their introduction to the core Letterland phonics skills. The students are invited to dress up as their favourite Letterland characters. If you need more information about what the characters look like, each student has access to Letterland Phonics Online that has images on all of them. Your child’s login to this site should be in their reader folder from earlier in the year.
In Walker Learning, we have been changing our dramatic play space to be a hardware store. The students were very excited to help in the development of the store by helping to build the workbench. They have also been sharing their knowledge and discussing the difference between a drill and a screwdriver.
